Thank you very much Harry for sharing your valuable knowledge that will be very useful when the time comes for engine tuning, and you're right: the purr of that engine lulls any insomniac, it sounds beautiful¡

Meanwhile the color was defined and another great enthusiastic friend of the old cars, Carlos Diaz (visit CARLOSDIAZ.MX and see their art), and made the perfect mix of the color he was looking for the merc. It is not new since that is very difficult to achieve and some of you will say: It is the blue Washington, or it looks like this car or such. Everyone is right because to achieve this tone I gathered more than 200 pics of different cars that had a color that I liked. I showed them to Carlos Diaz and he immediately knew what I wanted because he has a Ford T and also wants to paint it that color, so he got down to work and started the paint job!
I hope you like the color and how the merc concept is defined.

In order for the engine to join the body, it needs its tailor-made leaks, since the originals were unfortunately not compatible with the suspension it brought. So, more investment of time and money ...

And when the planets line up they generate jets of positive energy: I found a set of Caddy 53 'cubes lid in very good condition and in Mexico City. The result is my photo in the avatar and I am happy, everything is going to the right direction

This is the best of the 4
    And he proposed this work:

Harry, how good you enjoy this project. Since I was fortunate to find this merc I have invested a lot of time in research and here in H.A.M.B. there are friends who are a living encyclopedia like you and who share their knowledge generously. I have also saved every penny I could to get to this happy moment. I did not imagine that to finish it I would have to pawn up to the shirt.
But with comments like yours and other friends who said to the beginning: you are crazy, you are getting into an ocean of problems with that¡, because it seems that at this point in the project they have convinced themselves that it was worth it. I'm already very close to finishing. I hope you continue enjoying this thread ..

Si, con mucho gusto! A thousand thanks for sharing this with us, Pacorro! I will follow your journey with interest.

:) The colour 'Pacoazul' is just right for your car. It seems so 'right' that I cannot think of any colour that suits it better.

My folks had their automotive machine shop from the late 1920s until a few years following the end of the war. My Mom poured the babbited rod bearings and did all the dimensional (micrometer) work and Dad did the machine work. They worked together assembling the engines. Until her dying day, she could quote the journal sizes and clearances of bearings and pistons for every American car and truck from the Model T to those of the late 1940s. In the years just priour to the war, Mom had a 12-cylinder 1938 Packard. She called it a touring car, but the technical name for it was dual cowl phaeton. It was so long that behind the driver seat was a second cowl and folding windshield that could be raised for riders in the rear seat. There were only 2 others like Mom's Packard...... President Roosevelt had one and the actress Deanna Durbin owned the other.

Towards the end of 1941, there was little question that America would soon be at war. The only question was...... When? So Mom sold her Packard to 5 soldiers who pooled their money and went in together to buy the car. They had a 30 day furlough and said they were going to travel all over the country and have a good time before they went to the war.

So in late 1941 when the 1942 models became available, Mom ordered a new 1942 Mercury club coupe. She ordered it with the Columbia 2-speed rearend (overdrive). The colour, she described as 'a very dark Midnight Blue'. Mom said her new Merc was delivered a week before the Japs bombed Pear Harbour and following that, there were no new cars built until wars end except those for the military. I found a paint chart for the Mercs that year and the colour is very close to what you have painted your car. See the colour 'Fathom Blue'......

Friends, I know you know much more about this car than me. They will know how many were made in 1950, whose design is it and some other interesting particularity? Soon more advances, I am very overwhelmed with work.

According to this article, 293,658 Mercury cars were built in 1950 and 151,489 of them were 2-door coupes (Please ignore mention of Packard at bottom of pdf file. That is a typo.)......
