Customs A look at my friend Bruce's newly finished shop truck

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, Jun 26, 2016.

  1. My friend @F-head (Bruce) had been working on this F-100 shop truck since late last year. It was a frame off, and he just got it on the road and I figured I'd show some pics (he's not very good at posting pics). He did everything himself, paint, upholstry, etc. Bruce has a lot of style and it shows. He also tracked down a lot of old chrome for it. Maybe Bruce will chime in on here and give some details. Shop/show truck. What more do you need? Either way, enjoy

  2. Here are some before pics, starting with what he began with. I love the Merc tail lights

Please explain what you did with the paint. Thinner, shoot time? That paint looks damn good. How much money in paint and what about dry time? I have heard their product is soft and can take a month to dry.

First off, I really like the interior and the use of the tail lights. And the engine compartment looks great. Nice build all around.

hahaha, someone was saying that the other day,
bad idea white yinyl in a shop truck , oh well
the paint is Ace rust stop
    basically Rustoleum
30 bux a gallon on super saturday
    with cheap Napa machinery hardner
    thinned with lacquer thinner
straight over acrylic lacquer primer I get at Orielys
I mixed 2 gallons of international blue with 1 gallon chrome silver and 1 quart of harbor blue in a 5 gallon bucket, then split it into gallon cans for storage
the metallic is a bitch to spray as the metallic is so fine it will gather on top if you spray it too wet
so I spray the last coat a little more thinned out and turned the air pressure way up
I use a cheap chinese devilbiss clone
Ive painted 2 other cars with this stuff in a non metallic form and its super easy to work with

also the stuff sands and polishes great after a couple of days
but you couldnt do that with a metallic job
im sure the metallic will die in a few years from oxidation with no clear coat
but I don t care its gonna be my daily driver
