Good for you. I'd be excited (dancing) too...lol. An old Hemi in a hot rod Model A is the coolest.

Thought I might show some progress...
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1378948643.225616.jpg
I'm really beating myself up with this front end, it's not normal and I'm trying hard to keep this things proportions right.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1378948809.390735.jpg
    So I cut and shorten.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1378948887.626085.jpg
Fix garbage welds, and unsightly holes.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1378948992.922802.jpg

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1378949073.148040.jpg
Weld, grind, weld and then grind again.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1378949148.624401.jpg
So I wind up with a pile of time in my wishbones, but a bung where I need it and a smooth appearance.

I hope you can see what I'm getting at. I don't want a severely sectioned grill shell. (Channeled car)So the radiator will sit in front of the crossmember but behind the axle(without the front end being a mile long). The wheelbase shouldn't be more than 110. Yes there is length between the firewall and radiator but hopefully the engine fills the void.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1378949673.779413.jpg
I'm not using that shell, it's just a wall hanger, but with a shiny new one, what do you think of this front end?

I like the front end and your skills are very impressive. Keep up the great work, all those little details will add up in the end...... My hats off to you.......

  6. Front looks cool. Have you thought of doing a rolling bones style front, with the '32 shell and axle hanging forwards? They look awesome.

I may be sticking my foot in my mouth, but what constitutes( Rolling bones ) I thought it was bobbed horns and axle hung in front of spring? Am I misinformed?

looks like real good work on the frame but i don't see how a chopped A coupe is not a belly button car...

I agree, it was in reference to the engine... My first car had a small block and that was all I ever heard... No disrespect... Just my excitement over the hemi.
Thanks to all for the kind words...

Little progress, but I'll share. Been focusing on the rear end and channel.

I'm proud of my little kick up, seems stouter then just but welding it. I'll still ad fish plates for peace of mind.

Those mail order brackets must be melted down crap, they didn't weld very well, but it was hot enough anyway...

I had a chopped, fenderless Model A back in the 70s, but with a 289 instead of a hemi. I am envious and hope to follow your build through to completion!

  16. I like the way you are putting this together and how the car looks so far, will watch with interest and best wishes for your build. JW

Thanks folks, built the rear crossmember this morning...

Started with some 2x2... Then I got a little nutty with the chop saw

40 cuts and 40 welds, and with the kiss of the grinder all of that work will be gone...

Talk about your dream job... I appreciate your compliment, it sure would be hard letting go of parts though...
Been at it on the frame, patiently, no frantically waiting for the chrome shop to be finished with the front end.

Rear end mocked up with the front tires. With the actual rear tires its gonna be a little higher but I think I like the ride height.

Looks like a nice project you have. Read up on the hemi in the tech section there is plenty of advise there as well as places to have machine work done. I have a 392 in my 40 and it was a great project for me. I'll be watching your build.

Thank you sir, I've seen pictures of your 40 and I like it! Would like to see a pic of the underhood. I bet it's crowded...

Just a little crowded but pocketing the inner fenders help. I enjoyed the challenge these engines make of fitting them to the 30 and 40 cars.

    Start on some ladder bars.

It's times like this when that offset housing really brakes your heart. Throws symmetry off bad. The last chassis I built I used coils, wasn't so upsetting. This is my second chassis and last time I'm thinking I'll use this style axle...
