The battle's been won, better not press your luck. Ryan did originally say they had planned on giving whatever engine they decided on the requisite visuals. Hmmm Didn't the 283/270 come out in late 56?
Let's say the rod was being built in '56 about the time that brand new Vette was flipped out on Range Line Road. The owner liked the little 265 so much, he ordered a new 327 in spring 1962.
I think there's an old Hot Rod proverb something along the lines of "Sometimes we need a poke in the eye with a piece of steel, to get a clearer vision." Great choice on the engine. The 327 was the best hot rod engine Chevy ever made. I'll just shut up now. Cheers, Stewart.
I realize that in the scheme of things, the drivetrain is just one element of this build or (any build), and hopefully Ryan doesn't view this continued debate as a distraction. But................. I'm as giddy as I was on fire-up day for my first rebuilt 327.
Finishing up the chop today... The "curly-q" method went much quicker on the passenger side. Oh, and we found some perfect headlights for this project:
Was it a case of figuring out the process making it easier or different fit of the sheet metal from one side of the body to the other?
That's pretty kool, altering the top sheet metal with the curl doing some of the work for you. That's top shelf therapy right there fellas. Mr. Tardel won't be braggin if he says "...can do that with one eye shut..." from now on. I'll shamelessly say I'm not feelin the headlights even though I get it and understand the context.
I'm a huge 682 guy... I have them on my coupe as well... and these will look killer on a dropped headlight bar flanked by the fenders.
I hear you loud n clear. While it's true that they are a standard in such builds, and like I said I get it, I suppose I'm just "that guy" that tries to buck the norm on certain things. I'd be doing 29 commercial lights painted to match but run the chrome bezels. I love a quick change too but they get used so often it borders on cliche'. Sometimes the tried n true standards are best and you guys did say it will be sold at some point. That's probably the most important reason right there. I'm pretty well stoked about this one. Just sharing my opinion FWIW.
Ryan you can justify anything you want to, and it looks like you have. Also this thread is making me late for work but I cant stop looking at that first mean little coupe.
Slapped on a skim coat of bondo last night. After letting it cure for a couple of days, most will be sanded off and then Keith will blend some new black paint into the old 60's era paint. And a shop scene from this morning:
