Notice that people are standing right where the concrete gaurd is missing? also if a car is going to 'lose it' and shoot off the track, this would be where it would happen. why would people be allowed there?

 

I was thinking that was a dangerous situation myself!

When you watch the video full screen you can see just how close to the wall it came. If you look on the other side of the track you'll notice the fence between the lane and spectators.
You'll be hard pressed to find another track that you can get that close to the action at. It's great when they do funny car match races a couple times a year.

 

They used to get pretty close at our old track....Here is a pic.....Nptice no guardrails.....This was about 1972

 

This was in the country of Panama in the mid 80's. Now I'll agree this one was dangerous...lol

 

Took me a sec, then I went... holy$@#!.. That's Lancaster... Then I looked where you're from....lol

I grew up in Derby on the Lake... My uncle raced at Lancaster for many many years...late 70's thru early 90's.. Big Mike Jaques... ran quick 8 before chasing the pro mod guys around the ihra tracks... I spent many a summer night at that track, I remember seeing Muldowney race Prudome there when I was just a little guy...
