    Hey Ron,

That giant bug park looks very cool and fun to play on all day. My granddaughter would have liked that place. She was not afraid of tiny, real bugs of all kinds until her mother and grandmother started screaming/jumping at the sight of any crawly bug. So, now, many years later, our granddaughter is afraid of any bug. So goes the influence.

But, our bugs are small but plentiful. My wife already threw away over couple of hundred flies that came in two bags. My son would sit for hours, grouping them, making formations, and battles. Then, in one sweeping motion, they went on the floor. He had fun counting them as he picked all of them up.

All that is left of the massive bug collection from 38 years ago is this grouping of colorful bugs. This made do for our granddaughter instead of finding a large bug, roadside attraction.

Man that is a nightmare commute. Do you take Rt. 66? I tested the metering transformers for the National Harbor Casino(MGM) and Hotels.[/QUOTE]
Yes I did, exit toward Chantilly, backway home... That building you worked on was huge.

I was in Meadville for work this past week and saw the the PennDOT sign sculptures - pretty interesting. Another item of note - Meadville is home to Channellock tools.

And one final comment...the so-called "artiste" that put this Cadillac sculpture together ought to be slapped seven ways to Sunday for screwing up and wasting that Sedanette...sheesh! - some people's kids!

  17. THANK'S (61CAD) I been to both of those. Their great museums! Here's the old Daytona Speedway sign. From 1976 on our honeymoon in the Vette. Also in 1978 we went to the Turkey Run, in our 38 Chevy coupe. 20180107_203226.jpg 20180107_203301.jpg 20180107_203457.jpg

..anybody from the Upstate NY, or similar woodsy tourist trip locations?

Do you recall the "woodsy" related souvenirs in the gift shops? I found this at a flea market years ago... it is a POSTCARD! I am not kidding, solid thin wood, but is marked or printed on the back just like one, with a place for the stamp! There is a tiny price sticker too! >> NINE cents!!! Lol..

Hey guys, I am kinda very low income, so at 66 now, I never got to travel like you all are showing here...but the day I took that pic, less than a week ago....was a wild adventure,.. off roading in a freakin blizzard, down behind my place, off to pay my heating oil bill, IN PERSON!!! I had fun dammit!! I knew I could not make it back home the way I came in, so I took the main state road instead!! I built this Star "hotrod" out of "stuff" in 3 weeks this summer!...with, yet to be treated(then)...... Lyme in my brain!...that explains Me & my "actions"!!, quite a bit! LOL

    Hey Guys,
You guys are lucky to be able to still see and experience the Lion Country themes. Lion Country Safari was a big corporation back in the early 70s. The one in Irvine, California closed in 1984 due to the land being more valuable as a rock concert venue and water park than roaming animals. (currently, the rock venue and water park have turned into a massive home/condo/apartment complex, so much for local fun time...)

It was something for So Cal locals to experience the animals licking your doors and windows with a bunch of slobber. Yuck. But, it was as close to nature as So Cal can get at the time.
    upload_2018-1-8_7-0-58.png
Most of the Lion Country Safari places have closed and the one in Florida is the last one left. One good thing came from the place in Irvine, CA. Free "lion poop" for anyone to come and haul away. since most of South Orange County, at the time, backed up against scrub and open hillsides. So, deer and rabbits multiplied like, well, bunnies. The exposed plants and gardens got ripped on a weekly basis.

It was a known fact that if the "lion poop" was spread around the garden, the bunnies and deer did not come back into the area for fear of being eaten. That theory worked until you no longer wish to smell the lion poop blowing in the wind, when you were trying to have a backyard party for friends and neighbors.

It is too bad if the younger generation wanted to experience this back to nature type park. In So Cal, there is another theme park just South in inland San Diego called the Wild Animal Park that is very popular. But, with the flow of people moving into the coastal areas, the population spread is reaching farther back into this animal park zone...so, it may last a few more years. Get the experience while it is still, "Blowing in The Wind."

I haven’t been to the Driftwood Inn in quite a few years. I live about an hour south of Vero Beach. At one time we had Africa USA in Boca Raton but the real estate value did it in like others.
