Am I the only one who watches the scene in A Christmas Story where Ralphie beats up the bully and thinks “Whoa, that roadster body looks great…and that Tudor shell is MINT!!”
Nope! I thought that the first time I saw that movie in the theatre. Less than a week later I convinced my wife she had to see it! And my ‘42 Fargo had a teeny part in the sequel.
I showed that movie to my grandson when he was little and the only thing he took from it was beat up the bullys... He's gotten good at it.
Here is a new one with a grown up Ralphie. Looks like it is set in the early 60's: A Christmas Story Christmas (2022) - IMDb
I tripple dog dare you! A Christmas Story is on my personal top 10 films list, and I watch it every year. You guys know, that there is a new one coming out soon? Ralphie is back I hope they don't mess it up, since this is sacred territory, but the trailer looks quite promising, so fingers crossed.
One of the reasons that the original film " A Christmas Story " was so great, was the personality of Jean Shepherd, who narrated it and co wrote the story. Sadly he passed away in 1999. Darren McGavin, passed away in 2006, he was such a great part of the original film.
The best Christmas movie ever…so many great one-liners throughout that movie. Funny thing is, when it came out in the theaters it was considered a flop, has quite the cult following now.
We watch it ever year. Great movie. Every time I think those bodies in that backyard wouldn't have been that old in 1939...must have had rough lives. Lol
My mom was born in ‘43 but her dad had a late 30s Oldsmobile like in the movie when she was a kid. That line about his dad being an Oldsmobile man hits home with mom cause her dad was as well.
Jean Shepard also wrote for CAR & DRIVER. The original title of The Christmas was In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash.
Maybe just what we need some lighthearted comedy with a mix of the past in this world of gloom & doom on the daily news...
Just got to thinking the last I had time to watch it I was 7 at grandma/gramps house my oh my that was 53 years ago and I couldn't tell you most of it now and yes that's a shame and I'm glad you brought up about gloom and doom taking over our lives it is a social sickness and we have an Old Time Theatre near us shows it every year so Erika and I going to go see it you know sometimes she jokes to me I should keep my hands on the bench with the tools that's another issue so everyone gotta smell roses and see A Christmas Story this year with family , friends or somebody . Thank you for addressing this .
Ralphies dad was the best! He loved and hated Oldsmobile's. Some men are Baptists, others Catholics, my father was an Oldsmobile man. That son of a bitch would freeze up in the middle of summer on the equator! And my Dad would go off the same way. In the heat of battle, my father wove a tapestry of obscenity, that as far as we know, is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan.
I always laugh at "my old mans tires were tires in the academic sense, they were round and were once made of rubber" : )
As a side note, Daisy never got the rights to use the name "A CHRISTMAS STORY". They brand their limited editions as "A CHRISTMAS DREAM". I have all the limited editions along with one of the original pieces Daisy made for the movie. There never was a Red Ryder Carbine with a compass in the stock! The original was a slide pump that came out in 1937
Hello, Despite the time period of 1940, we have all associated with this classic movie after it came out many years later when we had all grown up. Things depicted in the movie just hit home for all of us. Coastal So Cal usually does not get snow like in the movie, but in 1949, So Cal got plastered from the ocean to miles inland with enough snow to make a snowman. Our dad used his skills to use a contraption that had a wire to push down the "shoot" button. it was a manually winding timer that made a wire push down on the button and take the photo. Today, the timers are all built in place... This photo was in late 1948. (his 41 Buick Fastback is parked on the street under those huge palm trees) Our house was a old white Craftsman styled house with a White picket fence. Palm trees lined the streets on this street. The yard was big enough for the two brothers to do all sorts of stuff. But, in 1949, the whole area was covered with snow and our dad’s 1949 big black Buick Roadmaster was covered with snow, since he parked it outside on the street. Jnaki We were surprised with the snow, but as it was So Cal, it did not last too long. But for Christmas every kid wanted a popular BB rifle. My brother had received a BB rifle that had a crank handle and I got a belt with a shiny chrome type pistol. The by the time next Christmas rolled around, I got a BB rifle that was a lever pump rifle that was a lot more powerful than my brother’s crank handle rifle. That crank handle was a killer. Sometimes it did not go all the way and came flying back to pinch hands and fingers with emphasis. Those 1948 to 1953 times were really something in that old house. Since we did not want to accidently shoot out our mom's windows, luckily we had access to a huge open grassy field behind our multiple car garage. That garage was large, but the openings and access limited our dad to park his big Buick Sedans in the street. The Terminal Island Freeway was at the other side of the huge grass field. So, we could shoot to our heart's delight at anything and no one or thing would get hurt or damaged. Today, the whole block is gone. All of the homes disappeared as the local school district leveled everything and now it is an elementary school/middle school complex next to a school district maintenance yard. The odd ball thing was they selected our address for the elementary school 2335 Webster Avenue... Ha! One thing is that the Terminal Island Freeway is still a stone’s throw away… “Can’t go home again…” But, memories last forever…YRMV
Was planning a trip down to Cleveland Ohio where the house from the movie has been turned into a museum and there is a there is a store selling merch. from A Christmas Story. Even though a lot of the movie was shot in Toronto.
Christmas Story isn't the only movie/TV show to check out. Just happened upon a CHIP's episode with an off topic but seldom seen AMX.
