A friend is street rodding a pretty nice 53 Ford truck. He's going a different direction than I would but, hey, it's his truck. I'm already angling towards the engine, trans(?), steering, and front brakes, but wonder what else is worth scavenging. Anything else that would be of use on a traditional style hot rod?

Wheels, and maybe the center crossmember (is it kinda like an F-1?).

    Rear axle. Driveshaft etc.

The rear is a Dana 44. Stronger than a 9" and better looking once dressed.

Front shock mounts. Why not make a package deal on everything and figure it out later.

  6. rear axle, driveshaft, pretty much everything from the fan to the diff could be used. def the brakes up front the pedals and crossmember could be reworked to use as well, but the master cylinder bolts to the frame on those not the pedal assembly or the crossmember

  7. Steering column? I have a '59 in my cabrio.

there is not a part on that truck that should go in the trash. take everything he does not need or want and sell it all on ebay. it's like free money.

49ratfink. It's a friend. I don't take things from friends to make money on. Anything I get goes in my stash.

That would be my plan. All those parts will be useful to someone. You can't think of everything you'll need on your next build, so don't be sorry later that you didn't get the parts when they were available.

    Really?
The dana 44 has thicker stronger tubes, bigger axle shafts, a better selection of lockers and limited slips and the cover is easy to pull for inspection. They are are also easier to change out for a chrome cover.

Even the old 19 spline dana 44 is way stronger than the 28 spline 9"
