Congrats on a great Flathead you built !
As long as you have a good stoke , strong bottom end and build it correctly then you can make more HP can most can imagine . Of course deep pockets helps a lot too !

I talked to Ron, and he made over 700HP on the dyno, but detuned it to run on the salt.

Still, we're knocking on his door!

Thanks guys! We're pretty happy, but we're still looking for the 'little things', that will give us even more power!

  11. Hey Buddy, was wondering . . . He was running on fuel was he not? We're on gas at the moment - I bet we'd have no problem on fuel making above those numbers (even with the current roots blower setup). The big issue is not the HP number - but can we keep it together in the process!

As you noted, outside the issue of the parasitic loss of a roots blower, an even bigger issue for any sort of aero car would be the lack or aerodynamics with our 2 foot tall stack of a blower manifold, intercooler, blower and injector . . . pretty much have to do it differently (like your turbo setup or a procharger) to reduce the frontal area of this big beast!

The new turbos Corky Bell suggested are 78-79% efficient, if we get the powerband right!

Ron ran fuel. Here are some of the engine specs, from his site:

301 cubic inch Vortech supercharged 1946 Ford flathead block
    Bore 3.307 inches, stroke 3.750-inch
    Vortech V-1 T-Trim H. D. supercharger[IMG]
Dli reversed intake and exhaust ports
Ross domed forged 6.8:1 aluminum pistons
    Crower steel billet rods
    Manley 2.02-inch titanium valves
K-motion valve springs, 295 lbs open, 165 lbs. Closed
    Crower “inverse radius” roller cams
Moldex billet 4.375 inch stroker crankshaft
    Tony Barron finned aluminum heads
    Motec M48 digital fuel injection
    Motec CDI8 ignition computer
    Motec ADL (advanced data logger)
Individual Cobra R coil per cylinder
MSD 96 pounds per hour injectors
    Two spark plugs per cylinder
    Avaid dry-sump 70-psi oil system

Wow! Afte seeing people throw a good chunk of cash at flatheads to get in return tiny gains it completely floors me to see you get that much out of a gas powered flathead.

    Wow. Good job :)

  14. You know, at one time Jack Costella was duking it out with Ron Main. Jack has went onto smaller, lighter cycle motors but I bet he would be game to partner up on a liner to after the flathead record. Several of us here can get you in touch with Jack, he is very helpfull. Have Rich look into it if you like, they are pals.

    Thanks Tim!

Trent, there's no doubting that Jack builds fast cars-I have his contact.

I've been working on a few things, and you'll see an announcement after Speedweek!;)

    Roy, ummm-no!

Better go and look up the new turbo efficiency-78-79%!

...and before someone pipes up and says they're not traditional, read the book Dry Lakes and Drag Strips: The American Hot Rod By Dean Batchelor.

You'll see that superchargers have been used in LSR since 1908, and turbos since 1941!

Buddy, looking at the pro charger I suppose you could sneak more HP out of the turbo. I was thinking more in terms of cost and difficulty of installation and heat. These are just thoughts going thru my head.

Roy, I hear what you're saying!

The next step is even more ambitious than this one has been. After Speedweek, I'll give more details.

I promise you, it will be something most people will say can't be done-hell, they may be right!

Buddy, so far the naysayers keep on saying no and you just keep on saying YES and you just keep on doing it and it just keeps on working. Your like the battery bunny, unstoppable! I'd bet on you any day.

Ah yes but anyone can go buy today's new tecnoligy out of a box, but it takes someone with real detirmination to take a sixty to seventy year old piece and make it perform...........and besides it sure sounds better than that new shit...................

Flatheads are keen but think how much faster you could go with a hydrazine/platinum
    rocket engine.....
