I started a thread on this before, but it was missing alot so I decided to start over. It will take me a few days to get all of the photos organized so bear with me,

This started life as a 1928 Willys Whippet 98A Tudor Sedan. I found the truck on good ol' craigslist in portland Or. Looked interesting so I loaded up the truck and trailer and took a road trip. This is what I found

The rust was minimal and it was different enought to save, so we made a deal and loaded it up. Looks kinda like a Model A except the doors are 7" longer and the cowl is 4" narrower. The bed is from a 40's Willys truck and now has flowers growing in it in San Jose.

Now for the motor, I just happened to have a 1991 BMW 850I V12 Motor and trans in the corner of the garage.

On the other side of the garage I had a 8V71 Blower with dual Holley 390 Carbs. I sat back and drank a few beers and thought to myself I can make this work. This is the progress so far

    lets start with the body.
The top was a little too tall so a 4" chop was the first order of business

    Before

    Off comes the top
    [IMG]

    and back on it goes

We flush mounted the doors and added a little suicide action, shaved the handles and hinges, then cleand up the rust at the bottom of the doors.

More rust repair around the front window, shaving the Cowl vent and starting the flange for the new recess firewall.

Ok now that we are up to date with the body, lets move on to the motor.

1991 BMW 850I 5.0liter V12 stock hp is about 315 and 332torque, 8.8 to 1 compression so it is just screaming for a supercharger.
The stock 850 weighed in at 4300 pounds. My truck will weigh under 3000 way way under.

The first thig I did was ditch all electronics and convert the motor to run 2 MSD boxes.
I made some lake headers and the intake for the blower.

    The motor went from this

    To this

    and finally this
    [IMG]

blower is set up at 20%underdriven for a target of 6 pounds of boost

  13. So you're not going to throw the big fat M/Ts on it?

I'm proud of you. But you may need to consider something a little sticky to keep it moving when the light turns green. Diamond back makes a sweet cheater tall n fat.

looks good Beemer mill and all.

No the M/Ts found a new home on a T-Bucket. The rear tires are used I bought them for mock up. It will soon get a full set of DiamondBacks

Wow, now that's something you don't see everyday.Gonna be a very cool ride.

  17. I like this a lot - has a great look to it.
Have you had the motor running yet? I gather it can be a bit of a `mare trying to get around the electronics on these.

The electronics were not that bad, BMW designed this motor to run like it was two seperate inline 6's. It has two distributors that run off of the cams. and Two Crank fire triggers running 30deg apart so all it took was two coils and two MSD boxes with a retard controll and thats about it.
but now it looks like im going with two HEI units from a jeep

Lookin good, Why did you decided to use a BMW motor? Is it going to be capable of hadling the boost, or you just going to keep at 4lbs or less?

I found the BMW motor by accident. I was buying some parts in Sacramento and the guy had this motor out of his wrecked 850I. I love V12's so I made him a retarded offer and he took it. The motor is a 8.8 to 1 compression and I know they have run twin turbo setups on this motor before. It can handle up to 10 pounds of boost on the stock block and heads. My target to start with is around 6 and I will go up from there.

and I have never seen another hot rod with a BMW V12 in it.

That is sweet, and the engine looks pretty good with the EFI all torn off (which was the achilles heal of these engines anyways). Very cool!

oh yeah and one of the best aspects of the combo is that I am expecting over 400hp and the motor and tranny weighs about 275pounds less than a small black chevy and turbo 350
