this is just how it is on the tag.

It is a 31 spline axle big bearing I am trying to find out the year and the type of truck it came out of so I can get new bearings, seals, and retainers.

Ford changed the way they stamped these tags several times . From my experience , the 5 represents 1965, the B is for February . I would call the local Ford dealer's parts dept. to double check .There are several websites to help us with this, but they usually seem to be hit and miss cause Ford changed things so much.

There are only a couple, maybe three at most, possibilities for these parts. Any competent (read. . in business for several years with experienced help) auto parts store should be able to zero in on the parts you need. Especially so if you pull an axle and take it and/or the bearing into the parts house. Oh, the truck has to be F-100/150 as anything bigger than that used a full floater Dana axle.

How wide is it wms(wheel mount surface) to wms. It has the 5 on 5.5 lug pattern? Also the width of the center section of the housing from the weld where the axle tubes meet the center section. Does it have a 1"-1.25" diameter round slug looking piece of steel welded to it anywhere?

You said it was a Ford truck rear. Measure it axle flange to axle flange.

If its 61 - 61.25 it is 1972 on back. They are all 28 spine axles.
If it 65 - 65.25 it is 1973 on up. A lot of thm are 31 spine axles.

If the axle retaining bolts are 3/8 it a small bearing rear
If the axle retaining bolts are 7/16 it a large bearing rear.

I called my local Ford dealer today and they were able to quickly decifer the tag from one I picked up yesterday as a 69 Torino . I wasted probably an hour searching online before giving up and calling them .

There are big bearing housings with 3/8" bolts as well.
