Hello all, need a bit of help again. I've gotten my engine apart and am rebuilding it with few difficulties. But I'm wondering a bit about my clutch and a few other bits. I've gotten a NOS 9 1/2" clutch disc but I have been seeing that the trucks of the same year have a 10" clutch. Now from what I've been hearing I should be replacing my pressure plate and throw out bearing aswell and all I'm running into is 10" sets. just wondering if there is a new or upgraded pressure plate and clutch for the passenger car 9 1/2" or can I use the 10" clutch even saw an 11" one...a little help please
If you could find a bellhousing to fit the 11" (corvette) go that route. it will hold better, especially if you plan to do any racing (even just for fun). I would not go any smaller then a 10"
The 10 3/8" clutch is standard 60's/70's V8 stuff. The 11" clutch is common on 60's/70's trucks and on the big block Chevelles and Corvettes. You can easily find a truck bellhousing that will house an 11" clutch, and that fits the standard chevy belhousing bolt pattern on ebay. A "real" corvette 11" bellhousing will run you some $$.
You'll have a reason to take either the engine or transmission out before you wear out the smaller clutch. That engine ain't gonna overcome the holding power either. Good luck
It doesn't take much to overpower the stocker - find a '54 truck flywheel if you're stlll running 6 volt. They use the 6 bolt Long or B&B pressure plate, fit in the stock bellhousing, & came in 10" & 11". Any '54 - '62 6 cyl. flywheel will work if you install a 6 volt ring gear.
I doubt a street 235 is going to really need more than a 9 1/2". If you still want to go bigger, then you'll need to get a different flywheel. NAPA has a 9 1/2" listed: http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPag...=CA5469&Description=Clutch+Cover+Assy+-+Remfd
I don't see why not. '54 Chevy cars came with 10 inch clutches, and their bell housing was the same design as the '49-'53 cars had.
