Event Coverage 8th Annual Oklahoma Hot Rod Hundred September 25th, 2021

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by guthriesmith, Aug 23, 2021.

  1. With all the event cancellations happening lately as well as the recent thread talking about increased participation in events that are happening, I figured I should let everyone here know that we are still doing our Annual Hot Rod Hundred in Oklahoma again this year. We will be starting in Arcadia, Oklahoma then driving the two lanes until we get to Weatherford, Oklahoma somewhat in conjunction with a 95th Birthday Party for Route 66. One of the sites along the way will be the historic Pony Bridge that is apparently fixing to go out of commission soon according to the Route 66 Association. Anyway, these events are about driving the two lanes and having a good time with some great BBQ at the end. For more information or to pre-register, visit http://www.hotrodhundred.com/oklahoma-city.html

Oh, and B-Scott once again did a great job on the t-shirt artwork including a couple HAMB-friendly cars...

  3. Sitting at about 80 cars so far and closing down pre-registration this Friday to make sure B-Scott has plenty of time to source t-shirts. Who would have thought that t-shirt supply could be an issue like so many things in today’s world?!?! Anyway, here is the link for pre-registration if interested. Or, shoot me a pm with any questions.

  4. Just got pics of the two awards we will give away. Alan Childers that works at Steve Cook Creations did some great artwork on them. These events aren’t about awards...they are about driving and having a fun time. But, we do recognize the person that drove the furthest to get to the event as well as the traditional hot rod or custom that the club members pick as our favorite. Two more days until pre-registration shuts down and we are approaching 100 cars so far.

  5. Went on a last second route scout today. Drive was good and weather is looking good for Saturday! Should be a great day driving!

  7. Thanks, but it is definitely not just me doing this deal. I couldn’t do it without the help of several others. ;) We have several of the CrossMembers who make these events happen. And, we really just like driving, so figure others might as well. We have been pretty amazed that folks actually come on these events that just a small group of guys who like to drive this junk brainstormed a few years back. :D

  9. I'll try to share some pics. Since I will be leading the pack on the drive which will likely turn out to be a couple hundred cars, I don't always get many pics. However, I think my oldest son is planning to cover the event with a good camera. He only likes stuff that fits in the on-topic category here, so we should get some good pics from him. Our year cutoff is 72, so not all on-topic for here. However, many are and I will try to report back early next week.

  13. Had a great day today. Just shy of 200 cars driving the two lanes from Arcadia to Weatherford, Oklahoma. My son hopefully got some good pics I can share here. A local news station was at the end of the pony bridge taking pics, so he had to find another location to catch the cars coming across as seen in the attached pic a buddy took. I am anxious to see how some pics turned out.

  21. Didn't take many pics, but here are mine... @guthriesmith Jeff relayed my dropped axle from Nostalgia Sid to the run so I can get my sedan down where it belongs.. Other pics are of the kids at Pop's on RT66, as well as Lucille's historic gas station, and my daughter took the pic of the Pony Bridge, the longest Bridge on 66 from the back seat.

We drove a total of 600+ miles, from Fort Worth to the start of the run, to the end of the run and back to Texas. I guess my ol sedan is reliable. 15 MPG and 2.5 quarts of oil, not too shabby.

  23. Here are a few to hold everyone over. The best ones were on the pony bridge.

  24. I could be biased on the photo coverage since the photographer was my son, but he is also just 17 and has a decent eye for this stuff. If you look through the google album, you can definitely tell the ones he likes which pretty much all fall in the traditional category.
