Building a 32 Ford and see that the 83-04 S10 is 54.25 outside width. Has any one installed the axle? Any anomalies? I`m going with parallel leaf springs. I used 35 inch leafs on the last one but can`t find a supplier. I imagine the pair in that 900 to 1200 lb for the light pickup. Thoughts?

I have used s10 in a 32 . Tight fit but it works . I used offset wheel looks Hot Rod when finished . Also used Nissan truck springs and hangers on rear , just be sure to get correct measurements when removing hangers , so as to locate correct on 32 frame , if not your lots of trail and error , for correct distance between eyes to make rear shackle work . Also try to load springs to get centering in rear fender . I did this by removing a few leafs to setup and reinstalled after setup . Still removed 2 from the pack also .

What and where is the tight fit? I used a 67 Nova rear last time and was really happy but those are like hens teeth so looking at the very narrow S10.
    S10 54.25 outside width
    67 Nova 57.75 outside width
    Is the S10 too narrow?
    Thanks

did you get the S10 glove box door that gives the gear ratio on the attached data sheet? even on a low buck '32 would do what I could to find a Ford 8"-9"

There are three different widths of S10 rears. 1 is 2wd, 2 different 4wd... A quick Google search will find you the dimensions.

I used a '93 S-10 4x4 rear in my 32 because I had an extra. I thought it was about an inch or two too wide. Wheels with about 3 1/4 to 4" backspace will tuck the tires in tight though.

If you can find a 70 thru 77 Maverick, the 8'' rear axle is 56.5'' wheel flange to wheel flange. I have one in my 33 Ford and it's a perfect fit.

I've got a two wheel drive S10 under my '34 Chevy coupe. No problems after 25plus years.

I put a 2wd s10 under my '32. Used P&J ladder bars. I'm running a buggy spring, which I had reversed eyes and narrowed after install.... think it was about 3/4" narrower per side for shackle angle. I run wheel adapters that are for Chevy to early Ford wheels. These made the mounting surface to mounting surface same as stock '32 dimension. I am using 7:00-16's on '35 rims. Closest dimension is 3" from inner fender panels. After I did this I even thought about putting fenders on for a different look. I installed Ford fenders front and rear on one side for a visual. The tire is centered exactly where Henry put them. I would recommend finding a posi axle as with these tires they break loose pretty easy. DSCN0353.JPG

BTW I took the fenders back off...

  11. The 2WD is the narrowest @ 54.2" flange to flange. Most guys prefer the 4WD rears width wise.

S10 is an 8 1/2 10 bolt. it's not quite as strong as a 12 bolt, but it's close and they were in trucks into the 90's and their are a lot of ratios to chose from. I'd say good choice.
