8 inch ford question

    i have a 8 inch axel i want to replace the axle bearings on should i take them in to do it or just press them off my self using a press and a bearing splitter

    I split the retaining ring and remove it before I press off the bearing. Pack a lot of rags round the bearing before you press it. I had them come apart when they were being pressed off.
     
  3. this is rough and dirty but has worked for 40 years without hitch for me, torch off bearing and retainer :eek:
    take a big pipe and slide hamer with the pipe new bearing and retainer on:D

    don't change the bearings unless thaey are bad!
    the old bearings are way better than the new ones,and eugene is right
