I am replacing the front pump seal on a 700r4. The gasket set came with washers and o rings for the pump bolts but no instructions on which order the go. I assume I slide the washer on first followed by the boring? The original bolts had rubber coated washers it appears. Just trying to get it right to avoid leaks.
If there is a groove for an O ring, use the O ring. If there isn't, use the gasket. I think the O ring was only used in the 1960s on the early TH400. but I don't know much about the 700, only been in a few of them.
I recently put together a 700r4 and the bolts for the pump all had o-rings in a recess in the bolt head. That was an 87 unit, perhaps yours is earlier and uses a different type of washer? I would think that an o ring on top of or under a washer that is flat would just squish out...
It's a 1986 unit. This is a picture of what I have. Bottom is the original washer, it seems to have rubber or ATV on it. Middle is the new washer and top is the oring. On the right is the bolt.
82 -86 used washers,87 and up used o rings.like 173 said if there is a recess under the head of the bolt use the o rings if not use the washers. Some one may have changed them at some point
