I love old water transfer decals. The way they look and feel on glass, the way you apply them, and especially the amazing artwork of a pre-computer graphics world. Slipping open that waxed paper sleeve and feeling the thick colors has a certain satis...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Very kool. Love the old water slide decals. It always upsets me when I see or hear people refer to stickers as decals.........................Don.
Before I had a car I used to collect decals from speed equipment companies and stick them to my bedroom door. I wish I still had that door. I plastered flame decals on my Schwinn bike and spider web decals on the dashboard of my dad's '56 Country Squire wagon. Here's an ad for decals from an early 60s Almquist catalog.
x2. But what I really miss are the more travel-orientated ones you got at tourist traps or gas stations that were "been there" souvenirs of the citys or States you visited, monuments, amusement parks, National Parks, or big events like the Kentucky Derby, World's Fair, Indy 500, etc. Many of these also had the specific year on them they were sold. I had that Isky 555 Decal on the front windshield of my 31 model A roadster , the car was built in the 50's/early 60's and it had that actual cam from the decal in the engine....that is one pissed off sounding camshaft!!! called a "4 cycle" cam ....Ive been told by the old timers that was the biggest aftermarket cam you could get for a big block mopar in 1963
I have a Rocco & Cheaters decal on my truck - it was given to me by Sam there at the R&C shop. Actually I had to put clear tape over the back of this one, they're old water slide decals and are quite brittle. What's sad is one of the big decal / memorabilia 'dealers' that I see at a lot of shows sells copies of that decal (and others I'm sure) - without the knowledge or permission of the shop owner.
I spotted these on an old race car last week and took some pics of them....I have some more on my phone, just have to transfer them to the PC.
I've got this old Roth monster that used to read: "Do Unto Others... Then SPLIT!" It's barely visible now (patina?) thanks to certain types of window cleaners being a bit harsh on the decal inks. Yes, it really is Grandad's old Rambler. Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
Holy crap... just checked out the flickr account of the guy with the above decal. It's all Ed Roth stuff, but some very cool images. Check it...!!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/coop666/sets/72157605594959854/with/2577200482/
My pal had this in a waterslide from back in the day, he had it reproduced as a sticker (inside window type) Here it is on my '49
Neat. Being a retired brown shoe squid, I have one of Ed's Naval Air stickers on my 27. Gary Correction: I just found my spare and it was a water-slide after all. On the down side, I got it on ebay and that seller no longer has any. Perhaps there are more out there?
