Would like to pick some brains if I can. Salty this be right up your alley. Our plans are a 357" Windsor 12:1 with a c4. Flotek 180 cc aluminum heads. Victor jr and a 650. The plan was a flat tappet cam but he has showed interest in a roller. It's a 78 block. That's gonna be expensive. Plus the heads are set up for .550 lift. I don't see where it's going to have enough benefit for the loot. Am I thinking right??

Do you give classes in this?
You sure have made short order of this.
I need to bring the Salt Shaker to you and have the lowers redone.
I have been looking at it (not that I would know what I am looking at) and think it could be pulled off without gettin into the lettering.

You will want to have the springs checked for either cam.
The roller is a big hit on the wallet but you can free up some H/P and more torque.
A solid flat tappet would work good and be a good stepping stone for a new driver and leave money for a helmet and seat-belts maybe even a jacket.
When you order a cam if flat tappet have it nitrated.

That's right where my mind was when we started this plan. Does someone other than comp nitride cams? Does this eliminate the god forsaken break in? What a pain in the ass

The most power comes from the best head air flow you can afford, then play catch up with the rest of the motor later.

This would be a good time for Scott to chime in.

Thanks so much for your thoughts. It means a lot! Yeah we're makin big strides but it's gonna slow down cause shits getting ready to get pricey. Hot dog needs something to ogle over to keep his interest. If we left it lookin like an all day train wreck his enthusiasm would dwindle faster than his bankroll

The roller cam offers big benefits. It is expensive to put in a 351 block. Your block is thinner than the 69 73 blocks. I made 645 hp with a flat tappet cam in a 351.
Just break it in right. No crank, crank and not firing. Start right up so the lube does not get wiped off the cam.20 25 min at 2k rpm to break the cam ,oil, filter change reset valves and you are good to go.

Could you tell us what heads and cam that are you using on the 645 hp build?

The heads were TFS ,one of the first sets they made. Ported by Powered By Ford in Orlando. Used a super victor intake port matched. Heads ,cam and intake are what make hp/. I was using a comp cams cam ,don't remember the grind. This was at 7500 rpm .It was still climbing but we decided to shut it down.

IMG_0609.JPG IMG_0612.JPG Ok. Need to do decklid and lettering ... and a ton of other shirt

  27. I think you're kinda limiting yourself with the carb. Big heads, big valves, big cam, big intake, and not so big of a carb.
I'd suggest a 750 vacuum secondaries. With a 3500 converter and 4.10's , you can make it leave cleaner and harder by playing with the sec. spring.

  29. Great work so far! Like the paint scheme you have done. Is much street driving planned? If so, 12:1 may require some expensive higher octane gas than pump premium. Or E85 as an alternative to get the octane. If staying pump gas (really the E10 that comes out of pump), you may want to consider lowering compression. It will take some of the snap and power out, but its all a trade.

Strip only. Except for the holeshots on the country road in front of the ranch. And the lightly traveled two lane that led to the coal mine that's defunct. Kindly referred to as " macoupin county dragway". Less than a mile from me !!
