A buddy of mine just bought a 1964 GMC suburban and hes looking for parts like headers, wiring kit, seats, rear doors all sorts of stuff. Any leads or web sites would be much apprectiated. thanks in advance John
Motor size/brand? Door's for the rear, dig, and dig some more. Are rear's tailgate style or barn door style? Wiring shoud be close cousin's to the reg. truck. Post a pic please, I had a '66 s few year's back. Doe's he have leaf spring's or the trailing arm rear susp.?
GMC had different wiring than Chevy. Doors were used on panels more than suburbans, but both were available on suburbans. Tailgate looks better, but doors are much more useable. I have a tailgate setup in my barn, I took it off my 66 so I could put on the doors. GMCs generally had the leaf spring suspension and a Dana rearend. Engine could be a Chevy straight 6 or a GMC V6 or possibly a V8.
The motor is a sbc 350 it has the barn doors, hes looking for the tailgate and the rear susp. is leaf springs. Also looking for disc brake conversion setup
Good luck to your friend finding a clamshell set-up(tailgate) They are tougher than chicken lips to find. So are seats,-- especially rears. I have a 65, and I've been looking for that stuff too. The disc change-over is the same process as for a 64-6 pickup--later model stuff bolts on(almost) Rear leafs? GMC only....wow. There's a suburban/carryall message board over at MSN...I forget the address. Slower than here, but good info and some good contacts. I have the address at home...but I'm at the shop---pm ya later if somebody doesn't post it
looks like i'll have to auction off my tailgate setup, now that two guys want it...heh... I don't have the sill piece which is different for doors or tailgate, it holds the tailgate hinges. But I have the rest of it.
make me an offer! although I really don't want to go to the hassle of crating the thing...it would probably need a relay to get to you.
The disc brake setup is easy to install.Crossmembers up to 87 fit in the trucks, you hafta drill two holes. Heres a link to a burb yahoo group. Its pretty good, lotsa smart guys on it......Shiny [email protected]
funny i've been wanting one for a while and just otday a '62 pops up in the trader paper here that we print at my work. got home late gonna call about it tommorrow...ken....
Since we're being all OT with late models here, I thought I'd beg for some Suburban parts too. I need a rust-free upper hatch for a 67-72. I have three rusty ones, and not even enough to Frankenstein a good one out of the three. Can anybody help?
