My buddy { Bad Bob]from high school in late 1950's, got him a 1965 Comet Cyclone about 8 months or so ago, like he had got brand new when he first got out of USN in 65,he has fixed it all up and built hot 427.
Asked if I'd do a Montser Car T-shirt for him like I did back in the day.
So here it is:cool: Had fun doing it for him:cool::D

Your not kidding!! I based my Rocket car off that '65. That is a great side profile, of an otherwise obscure car. This is only the second or third picture I've seen of this car!! Thanks for sharing it, Muttley.

  8. Well here it is in white... When Beswick gave it back it went to Rossi.

I sold it back in '87 to a guy who said that he was one of the Ford factory Thunderbolt Fairlane drivers back in '64. He saw me make a run during time trials and he came to my pit spot and said that it reminded me of his old Thunderbolt so much that he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. The pictures at the end of the video are ones that he sent me after he repainted it and did some other changes. He said that he got it running in the 9s. He said that he was going to sell it. I don't know where it is now.

Punched out another night of racing at Irwindale. For the fast cars, the track just did not come around, due to moisture in the air, and on the track. For me, heck, it just did not matter. The car is slow, but WAAY FUN to make passes in !!! It'll come around. I think tonight I solved the issue of why the car is nosing over at high rpms. I forgot about the stock fuel pick-up only being 5/16th's. Like thats gonna make a difference, huh!!!
Looks like a new fuel tank needs to be built!!

K&N sent me the link to the interview we did on the Comet. Its hard to remember what to say when there are a bunch of people standing there staring you down!!!

WOW, anyone know the info on this one?? Never knew a Comet was raced in A-Sedan! Could it be an ex-Safari car??

I think Ronnie would be impressed if he was here! Very nice.

  27. Kind of a one off question. Since I've got a bunch of 1958-60 T Bird hoods & extra scoops I've cut out of rusty ones. What do you think about fabricating a 2" higher scoop & putting it on my 65 Comet HT instead of a Crites glass hood? Thinking of extending the scoop to the front of the hood & back to the dimension of the old teardrops.

I'll try to post some pic's to this post in the next few days--just got to dig the hoods & scoops out.

    Thanks

I have a question for the Comet gurus. On a '64, was the section of 1/4 panel that is enclosed by the stainless trim always painted the same body color from the factory? I see this insert painted red on white cars , and in M.J.'s car it is painted blue, ect. Just wondering if a different colored insert was something a new owner did after delivery, or could it be optioned from Mercury? I am new to early Comets, but I am trying to learn.

    Thanks,
    Mike
