Al, You mention the Premier Comet as a favorite...did you ever hear the true story about what happened to that Comet? I hadn't heard until this past summer when I received an email from the grandson of the dealership owner that sponsored the Comet. He told me that they didn't have much success with the Comet during the first year of competition (I remember seeing it on the strip at the Indy nationals in 64). So they decided to strip off all the glass parts from the front and sides and replace with steel OEM stuff and they went round track racing. Of course it got beat all to hell and he said they ended up junking the entire car, A/FX parts and all. When he told me that I almost cried. Not a very noble ending to such a legendary car. Bob

There's a Dragway 42 thread on here that I got them from ... I like the Doug Nash B/FX (BFO in the window)... Dragway 42 is a home track for me, I love that place...

Newbedonnie;I think it has lasted so long is because 1964 is the cutoff, but 65s are a very similar car and the content applies to the era in which they were built! JMO , ROY.

Went to a friends shop and he has this in the back. This thing was clean...

Most of his other cars are non HAMB friendly Fords.

Stroked sideoiler not exactly sure as he had so many cars to look at and didn't want to be a pain. He had two 64's in paint booth's I wasn't able to get pictures of. I didn't want to go crazy taking pics. Nice 67 Shelby with a 427 sideoiler also, Falcons and Fairlanes. Just really cool stuff.

found this on facebook wonder if it is bull#####....65 Merc. Comet Cyclone, Rare 427 Prototype - $9200 (Salem)

    1965 Merc Comet Cyclone Prototype
    1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone 427 c.u. Prototype.
This car is one of four produced by Mercury with 427 C.U. for possible production in '65.
This is the only one left of the four. The other three were cut up and dismantled when Ford cut their funding.
It sat in S. Carolina for twenty six years and has some rust issues, however in this sale there is another '65 Comet Cyclone that is rust free that I picked up as a donor car.
Prototype originally came with 427 c.u. side oiler.
    Needs motor and trans.
Original Poppy Red with black interior.
    Divorce forces sale.
Priced at 1/4 my original cost.
    Pictures on request.
$ 9200 obo for both cars.
    503-437-8292 Brian.

I talked to him the other night, and was told it's a single 4, 427 with an auto trans, a 9 inch rear, and the shock towers are boss 429 style. Also, the rear springs are moved in one inch. and last, the 5th diget of the vin is blank.
I am waiting for pictures as well.......

Get the DSO off of the Data Plate....is it a 2 digit or a 6 digit code? In fact, post the complete Data Plate if you can...

That 65 has been around the web sites! They have it marked as a B/FX,not with a tunnel ram and no front bumper. It obviously is not a factory B/FX as it is a Caliente. ROY.

I also talked to the guy today about this car. He said he was going to send pictures but never has. I am not a big Mercury Comet buff, what is the deal with this car?
Does not having the original 427 bring the value down a lot or it is something you can find another one and throw in while only losing a minimum of value?

There was another guy in Salem, OR a couple days ago that had a 1969 Corvette with an original L-88 engine. I think it sold right away though. The car wasn't an L-88, just the motor. After speaking to him on the phone, the owner said the engine shop restamped some of the numbers and it scared me too much to purchase it.
