When I do take the Cyclone out in public it attracts alot of attention.People swear it's a 427 when they here it.When I tell them that it's a 289 they don't believe me.So then I have to prove it and open the hood.Peoples eyes get real big with amazement...if you get the right combination of cam duration, overlap and compression ratio the 289 sounds wicked!

Steve;I hear you on what people think they hear!!!!!Most did not believe you could get 352" out of a 289,or that it ran mid 10s with a four speed, started taking my log books to shows as evidence!!!!Now I have to explain the 418"W engine!! ROY.

Roy, I've seen you shifting gears. If your trans had brass, it would be gone now!! Drive it on the street!

Eric;I still have my stock, early Toploader,it is tired and the synchros are all done, but it still works if you drive like an OLD man!!!!!It ran an 11.04 at Vegas a few years ago with a 347 and that poor old stock trans!!!!The best part about street driving with a Jerico is watching people[those that drive sticks] turn to see who is grinding gears!!!!The longest drive is about 5 miles to a local car show,I'm ready to get out of the car by then!!!!! ROY.

Roy,I thought that if you hit that sweet spot in the rpms and yanked on the stick it would bang into gear with no grinding....:D

Steve;it does not "grind" so much as "CLUNK" into gear, you can not be timid, you just yank the shifter!!!!!Then of course you have the beautiful noise of straight cut gears that are LOUD when you are running mufflers!!!! ROY.

Dale;most of the spectators on Thursdays are ricers and can't figure out why the big tires are on the rear!!!!The rest probably think ALL racers have slush boxes!!!!! How is the "Rocket" coming along? It sounds like the "Dale" is jumping on Thursdays, think it will calm down soon?Would like to get in a test session soon! ROY.

Mike;they are the easiest, cleanest fitting headers I have ever installed in our chassis!!!!!The only thing I had to do was slip the clutch bellcrank into the opening as I slid the header up,NO BIG DEAL!!!! ROY.

Back in the day,you always had to take a hammer to the headers to put a ding into one of the tubes to make them fit. This was normal. But the worst fitting headers I have ever installed were Cyclones into a 64 Comet with a 289.What a frickin' headache! It took me 2 days to get them things installed, and several times I almost gave up and tossed them! And they still didn't fit right!Arrrgh!

Analog, I can say Cyclones on an early Bronco, were far from a good fit as well!

  15. I have the Doug's Tri-ys in my falcon with a McLeod bellhousing.. I had to massage the bellhousing unbolt the steering box and push it up outta the way and drop all the steering linkage. I got the headers in place, with some force... I couldnt finagle the z bar in at the same time ( holding the header up and pushing the steering box up) so now I have to find a way to get it in there. I have Doug Thorleys on my Mach1 with a 351c and they slid right in.. Hopefully you the same experience Roy did!!

Guys;there may be some confusion on tri-y headers.I run the Doug's # DOU-D660YS,I understand that there are some Thorley tri-ys that do not fit as well, not familiar with those. ROY.

  17. I have the same Doug's Headers as you Roy on the Falcon and Doug Thorleys on the mustang. The falcon was a hard fit, I think just because of the bellhousing.

I have Hedmans on the 64 Cyclone and they went right on...the only thing I liked about Cyclone was their "Purple Hornies".

Mike;it has killed plans for just about everything car related for the rest of the year!!!This last mishap on top of new front unit bearings, hub seals, front rotors, rear carrier bearings, and a new starter, has pretty much killed my travel and racing plans for this year!!!!! ROY.

Roy, that sucks, but none of that shit isn't hard to replace, just hard on the wallet, but I have no room to talk, at least you race, and your car is together!!

    Sorry about the bad luck.

Roy- I'll give you a ring during the week. Its been hell. A pain in your body no medicine seems to get rid of. I had a few friends come over to the shop and help me on that deadline Polara Convertible, and I am very lucky to have them drop their day in order to help me:

Sorry to hear Roy, we wait the off season to get at it again.... The California Reunion is closer for you-you can still make it.

Nice looking convert Teddy, having friends like that reflects back on the guy they're helping!! So you must do the same. Good Luck on the 289. Al
