i have a1961 galaxie with a 352 and a cruise o matic, the tranny seems tired and i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on an alternative for cheep.
I just found a spare motor and trans for 250, because I wasn't able to find any cheap alternatives. Good luck! I know you can get adapters to use Ford AOD transmissions and various Chevy ones, but they seem to start around $850.
Nothing is cheap about transmissions. Ask your self what you want. You can probably get a $200 or $300 jusnk yard Cruiso or C6 and run that, but do you really want to be sitting on the side of the road with another smoked trans in a few months??? Get the Cruiso rebuilt properly or swap in a new trans. A few extra hundred bucks now good save you a bunch in towing and repair fees later. Just speaking from experience.
