what ever happend to the X sonic. for a car that had so many changes.. does someone have it or was it destroyed.. a clone would be super cool.. start with a kitcar corvette body and go from there.

    Hey Rikster:

Do you have any shots of the Darryl Starbird, Dave Puhl, Dick Scully "Electra" in any of it's configurations including the version after our Polish Comany had Dave redo it in Candy Red?

Some of those builds were just over the top as far as the aesthetics were concerned!; On the other hand, I've always admired the "pioneer spirit" of the individuals behind these creations and the way they "broke away from the molds" to do something so dramatically different at the time! Every one is a masterpiece in it's own rite;...whether you agree with the outcome or not! It all adds up to hot rodding and customizing;..and pushing the envelope. It was a great era to grow up in!

I agree, when you went to a car show, you knew you were really going to
    see something.

I dig this thread … Thank you!

The "Silhouette" was at the first in-door car show I ever made it to. The Show was at the Santa Clara County Fair Grounds. That was an impresive car in person. Last I heard that car disappeared after AMT Models measured it to make the model of it. As far as I know it's still lost.

X-Sonic fans… If you can get your hands on a copy of Rod & Custom Jan. 2002 there is a great 9-page feature on the history of the X-Sonic. Called the X-Taodinary X-Sonic. It's been a few months since I read it but I remember that Watson said he repainted it every six months for a while there.

Ron Aguirrre is still alive and the car, missing the bubble-top and may other parts still exists… and somebody is restoring it some where… I have to re-read it myself.

I also know a gentleman who's father owned a gas station in Rons neighbor hood. His father was friends with Rons dad, They bought the Vet new and stored it in this guys gas station for almost a year before Ron started work on it… for whatever that’s worth… just a weird tidbit in the history of this great custom.

    Hey Rikster:

Thanks for posting those pic's of the Electra/Excel. It was my job to trailer that thing around and use it for the polish promotion. We built a car trailer with Plexiglass sides so that it was visible while we towed it. Wish I could find the pictures of that rig. I towed it with 65 Impala HT.

I drove that car in parades and always had to keep the top about 1/4 open cause it had no air then and it was hotter than a 2 peckered Goat on a Sheep farm.

Do you have anything on Dave Phul's Illusion other than the article where they did a road test on it? Where is that car now I wonder.

Bill Cushenbery's Silouette has been seen before in this post, but the recent post of the movie in which this great Bubble top custom can be seen driven got me inspired to find out more about this custom.

I have heard that some bare metal in progress photo's of the Silouette have been published in a magazine in the 60's. But I dont have this magazine, nor do I know which magazine it is. Does anybody here knows more about these in progress photo's and perhaps has that magzine in which they are published? Possebly scan them to show here?
