Love to see some pics of late 50's early 60's hot rods and gasser steering wheels. Looking for inspiration for my 57 rebuild. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Anything wrong with the original wheel? or just looking to change? Late 50's-early 60's would probably just used the stock wheel, later into the 60's it seemed like the smaller fat rim 3 spoke wheels became popular.
The old chrome three spokes with holes and glittery surround (for lack of proper name) look good Make sure you get a big enough one that feels rite tho, I bought a new chrome 3 spoke that just didnt feel rite because it was too small in diameter. Wound up using a old one of the same style but bigger.
The car has had a Camaro rs steering wheel on it for 30 years. I wouldn't be opposed to going with an original wheel but... the car has a lift kit in the front and will have a big block and tunnel ram with 2-4's.... looking for something that fits the theme a little better. Looks like Mooneyes sells something similar looking, at least to the average guy that doesnt know the difference. (Saw your impressive wheel collection in you garage pic the other day Moriarity) https://www.mooneyesusa.com/15-inch-Metal-Flake-Slotted-3-Spoke-Steering-Wheel-p/gs270cm.htm Also saw where speedway sells the metalflake ones with the holes, but what I saw was only 13 inch wheels which is the size of the black surround one I didnt care for. I would go for a 15 or maybe even a little bigger if necessary.
or find one at your local parts store? https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/.../chevrolet/c1500-pickup-rwd?manufacturer=true
I got lucky, I bid on several on Ebay that went way more than I could pay, then finally I got one for $60. It's an old Superior metallic green 15 in wheel. Really nice shape too.
I found this one at a flea market for $5. It was really grungy and didn't clean up the best, but it's in my Henry J now. Gary
My 55 wagon gasser had a 64 chevelle steering wheel in it when I got it. My Morris Minor Woody had a 3 spoke with black rubber when i got it.
