i put a 250 that is the same length as a 292 in my truck and found it to be a little longer then the 216 i took out, but i made it work by moveing the rad out a couple of inches. i`d say you can put dam near anything in dam near anything. a 292 is not the same block as a 235
Might need to post the years of both engines. I know a '64 Chevy 292 won't bolt up the the original tranny in a '40 Chevy, and the newer bell housing wouldn't fit the '40 tranny either.
292 has one offset motor mount you will have to move mounting location on the one but not a big deal.
If we need to swap the motor, trans. and rearend I can do it at my shop after you go back home...make new mounts, driveshaft and swap in the 57 pontiac rearend i have for sale, whatcha say?
you will need to go to a open driveline. 292 is a good choice for the 53' chevy as it will bolt to all the popular tranny choices, auto or manual pg. 350 turbo,200r4,700r4,400 turbo,3,3od.,4spd's,t-5,6. whatever...
Usually by the time you put a later six in where a 235 was, it's not much more work to just put a small block in there. A '57 Pontiac rearend has a different wheel bolt pattern than the Chevy, so you'll need to scare up a spare with both patterns on it. Or just put one of the half dozen different rearends with the same pattern (55-57 Chevy, 70-81 Camaro/Firebird, 75-79 X-body Nova & clones, S10 4x4) in there instead.
I've got 1" spacer wheel adapters from 5 on 5 to 4 3/4...and i have a 79 pontiac posi, he can choose...i agree with the v8 swap, a 283 would be nice, nothing crazy for a highway cruising custom...
Put A Slipper Bearing 235 In If Its Not Already And Fit Some Twin Carbs And Headers And Fit A T5 Box And Open Drive Line.
