Ok, so I'm looking at a '61 Ford F100 shortbed.....typical cheapo farmer truck.....3 speed, no options. Nice clean old truck...great driver/parts chaser.

Now for the issue......it starts with no problems, EXCEPT.....after it starts and runs, the starter won't disengage from the flywheel. Rolling and popping the clutch works to test drive it, but not practical for a driver.

Anyone have a thought as to problem/solution. Is it a hard parts issue or an electrical/wiring issue. What to look for......

    Thanks in advance.

Well given that year truck 2 things come to mind. 1 Starter solenoid sticking, disconnect cable to starter when running. If starter then disengages bad solenoid. 2 The starter drive is dirty/rusty and is not spinning back on it's splines. Pull starter and have a look. Clean it up if dirty do not oil/lube. You can not retract it by hand ,off the car the only way is to spin the gear with a wire wheel on a bench grinder and do it the right direction or nothing happens.
