Projects 59 chevy wagon in progress

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Cody Walls, Mar 23, 2010.

  1. Cody, I've been subscribed and watching for a couple years and am continually amazed by your vision and execution on the wagon. Take heart on your paint problems, they could always be worse. I just "finished" an OT resto-mod for my wife and took it back to the painter for a couple "minor issues". I usually paint my own but this one is supposed to be special. The minor issues ended up as all the color coat on the shop floor in big strips. The paint store thinks the base under the metalic must have been frozen in shipping last fall when the weather went to hell and none of it bonded to the sealer. que the violins.

Paint is a bitch, I'm not as fussy as you are Cody, or I'd go insane. BTW I took the 60 Wagon out after two years hibernation, she started right up and blasts down the highway just fine. I've got that pesky noise coming out the tranny at idle, gonna get it into the shop on Monday. I wanna start working on it.

    Wow, this is car porn!!

  13. I thot that shud be the same as my El Camino and thot it odd that Steele didn't carry it. I looked in their catalog and both '59 & '60 are listed the same way, "BelAir, Impala, El Camino & Wagon, except Brookwood." Why wud Brookwood be singled out?

Hi guys, I believe this is a misprint in Steele's catalog. All 1959 sedan, wagon or El Camino used GM # 4757011 windshield rubber. FWIW 1960 however is a different story, Biscayne/Brookwood use a different rubber to Belair/Impala etc. I know from experience that 1960 Biscayne sedan rear is different to all others as the trim fits into a slot in the rubber rather than being held by metal clips. Perhaps something similar on '60 front?

    Cheers,
    Arnold.

sorry for the delay guys , things here have been very frustrating and hetic , Ive been making some progress but not as much as I would have liked to , still working out the bugs in a lot of things , but I finally got a lot of them fugared out , I got the master cylinder back from being sleeved down and still ran into some problems , the spring on the 7/8 side wasn't long enough to pull the plunger back , but last Thursday I got it all fugared out , and the breaks are working the way they should now,
    [IMG]

I had the left side sleeved down to 7/8" ( Front disk) and the right side sleeved down to 1" for the (rear drums)

also ran into some oil leaks with the valve cover , I changed to a thicker gasket
    [IMG]

worked on the interior some more

back in from testing the brakes

    did some night driving
