back in feb 2010 I looked at this car when I was looking at wagons. This was one of the first I looked at. I checked it out and kept in my mind rolodex. I kept thinking of the back glass and front being broken and how I'd have a grand or more in glass real quick. The snow pic is when I first looked at it Fast forward a year later pate swap meet 2011 and I saw a back glass, tail gate shell for $150. I thought of the wagon but didn't have the owner's number on me. Sure enough had I bought it it would've been sold. About a month later he calls me up says "wild fires have gotten close to this car twice now" so he made me a fire sale of a deal on it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=611150 Now its time for the build. I hoped for LSR but things got in the way so I'm shooting for StrayKat 500
now time for the tear down. It was dirty, nasty inside. I think I removed enough black rich soil from the air ducts to pot a dozen flowers on the front porch. seats out to assess how bad the floor boards are
It looks like you were meant to have this car. Now give those kids some wrenches and help them get to it - have fun & good luck! -H.R.D.-
I starting gathering or collecting parts, Got lucky and scored a 58 column with rare impala wheel then I grabbed a 59 wheel from the same place, the green wheel in a 59 impala sedan had a funny story ; calves went inside to stay warm! also grabbed a radio delete plate, clock delete, some pulleys for short water pump at local okla junk yard believe it or not
in response to Hot-rod dude. You know they are working on it. I broke the bolts loose and they undid the radiator. Older one was really proud of himself. they also scuffed up the heater box with red primer scotch brites.
few more. Motor is a 01 350 vortec from a chevy van. last pic it was hard to tell there was a motor under all that bs. It will get a 700R. Even if my time would allotted for LSR they don't have my driveshaft ready anyway
now time for the front end. I think who ever towed it around by the tie rods they were all bent. going back disc brakes. think the wheels will be 15" steelies, 67 chevelle caps, slightly wider on the back 7" and 6" up front . Lowered a little all the way around
You are making awesome progress on the 1958! What are you going to do about the colors? I am biased, but the silver blue over white is a killer color combo! Keep up the good work!
The dash was dark grey yeoman's had same as del ray interior.(very plain didn't even have holes for switch for door-dome lights. I will paint the dash a lighter somewhat body color bule. I will go back blue and white eventually. Maybe different hue but similar
looks like a good project with a cool story on getting it. Glad to see you have the boys out there lending a hand.
getting the front end together.Got on the V8 motor stands, went conservative with just a little more than a coil cut Oklahoma roads are not the best. Cleaned up the dash cluster, repainted the needles. odometer was pealing but read 112,000k on the clock
I love seeing your boys and the chevys you find! 58 wagons have such a great look to them! Keep us updated, wish you and your boys the best!!
Its coming around pretty good!!! I dont think Hayden has enough HP to pull the wagon though. you may need to add Seth under the hood as well.
don't even have the 55 unpacked from lonestar and dropped the motor in before our late april ice storm rolled in this am. got the disc brake brackets on too brakes will be on shortly may have to go a little lower on front too back springs are still stock
