58' Ford Escort - Family Cruiser

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chopperman, Aug 30, 2011.

  1. The Aerostar 3.0 V6 was a different engine family all together, that Vulcan V6. What he has is a Cologne V6, and the 2.8 versio was in Early Aerostars
The Toyo Kogyo Built 5 speed from an early Ranger 2.9 V6 will bolt up to your Capri motor as will the later Mazda M5OD-R1 5 speed (also from the Ranger). European Capri's in the 80's came with a 5 speed but you're not likely to find one over here.

The only place you'll find the Capri style "type 9" 5-speeder in the U.S.A. is in a Mercur XR4. (Ford Sierra, rest of the world)
These were also fitted with the "Cologne" V6.

    Loving this build so far!

This thing RULES. Would be even more wicked with a turbo'ed 2.3 I4 in it, might even save on milage.

Best british classic Ford magazine. Loads of ideas and adverts for parts.

    www.ebay.co.uk very good too.

Most poeple in the UK are fitting Zetec fours these days from the Ford Focus and Fiesta. It's a terrific engine with loads of tuning potential

You may find this place will answer any question you have about a 100E or variant model. From stock to modified you'll get alot of help and info. Just register first. Slow moving site so be patient with replies. Also ebay UK for parts. There are plenty of these cars kicking around and most bits can be found or bought.

A V6 fits better in these little Anglias than a straight 4 due to the very short engine compartment. The clearance between firewall and radiator is really tight!

some more progress on the dash. Still need to sort out the fuel gauge and unwind the rats nest under the dash- not sure what the OHM range is on my stock sender.

love your car..i m currently (someday he he) gathering parts and building a
1959 anglia 100e. using a 5speed transmission (1988 turbo bird) transmission bolted to the bellhousing from a 1977 mustang II with the v6 2.8 with a cable clutch all bolted together fine
i m sure you would have trouble with the trans tunnel clearance as i am not that far along.

do you have any pics of your front suspension with the rack and pinion..
do you feel it drives good at higher speeds.
i m looking to convert my front end using mustang II crossmember and late model struts with coil overs....looking for some input

currently has stock everything and speed isnt there..handles all over the place ....with drum brakes..ugh.

    any help would be great...

what transmission are you using now..?

Capri Struts go in with a little work. Trouble is the European Ford stuff such as RWD Escort cross members ect are nearly impossable to find in America.

I'm running all Capri stuff now; including the 4 speed trans. My struts were toast, so I went to spax coil overs. Car runs and handles great. Needs a 5 speed though as gearing in the rear is 410:confused:

I'm getting ready to do a M50D swap from an explorer

Well that dash was way more work than I thought it would be, but it turned out awesome. I even spent a day getting the fuel guage to work in tandem with the sender. Man, what a difference.

drove the car this morning only to find a completly soaked carpet. Upon inspection, (pulling all the interior trim and panels out) I found that 3 of the 4 drain tubes in the rear quarters had come off.

Water was basically just dumping into the cab during the last major storm:mad3:.

    All fixed up now though.

Spent the day walking PNP looking for a replacement rear end (something that I could get a R/P for). Ended getting a positive ID on my rear end, turns out it is out of a 70's Corona.

Pulled the PNP rear end and it was a 3.73 (currently running 4.11), 3.73 isn't where I need to be, but much better, plus I was able to get mine ID'ed so I can start loooking for some 3.00 ish gears.

Anyone know where I can get a R/P set for a 70's Corona, cheap. I found a guy that specializes in them, but he wants 500.00 for the set.

No aftermarket support for this diff(6"). Looks like 3.73 is it until I swap something else in there.

Great, fun little car. Someone had the rear tailgate and hatch hinges chromed.

I had one virtually the same colour.

very nice. Can you please share the wooden dashboard blueprint if possible? It looks much better than the original.
