I don't see why not, should be pretty straight forward. Just measure between the frame rails and see what fits. Tons of companies make aftermarket tanks. Come to think of it, they make everything aftermarket for a 58'. Maybe someone on here knows of a cheaper junkyard route for you.
Is there something you don't like about having the gasoline in the cab with you? Seems like it would be a constant reminder to drive defensively. Maybe the tank from a sedan delivery do what you want, if you can find one.
I bought an aluminum tank from BoatsUS to do the last one I did. They have a ton of sizes. Classic Gauges has a sending unit that will fit the tank, and work with the stock gauge.
Classic industries makes them for your truck. You'd just need to extend the sender unit wire and the fuel line. Edit: http://www.classicparts.com/1955-59-Gas-Tank-Under-Bed-Zink/productinfo/23-926E/
Just finishing up a 58 apache and I used a 65 mustang tank. Fits great between the framerails and filler neck comes thru bed floor.

I used a 55 Chevy car tank in mine, had to use a hole saw to allow the fuel filler to go through the frame and used tubing to extend it up to the back side of the fender, used a large grommet in the hole where the pipe exited and it is the old original neck and cap.
