OK the cats out of the bag...it's a weenie chop ...2" but I didn't want radical...I wanted classy and proportioned. Still have tons of work but it is all tacked together.

Looks good, if it's a 2" chop you might be able to use a coupe/conv windshield...

Very nice. Are you going to sink the windshield into the cowl ?

    That looks tits :)

  11. probably all welded by now but the hardtop/conv. windshield is 2 inches shorter that the wagon. the quarter (the radius moves a little to the rear) and backglass are laminated and can be cut. all the rest of the glass is flat no problems.
glad to help if you have any glass questions

A lotta guys say" hell, if you are only gonna chop it 2 inches, Why bother?"
Your wagon shows why we SHOULD bother. Sometimes its the subtle stuff that really makes a car pop. BEAUTIFUL !

Most Tri-Fives look like shit with chopped tops, IMO. 2 inches is perfect. A big chop on those cars just screws up the proportions. Great work, keep posting the progress pics!

No not sinking the glass...I am planning on trimming the corners a little and making it fit.

thanks for all the kind words guys! Just wait until ya see what I have planned for the paint on the roof!

Lookin great....glad you had some self control!...I remember a fourdoor tri5 that was in mags years back and he suicided just the rear doors like a 61 lincoln....and also left the outside handles on it....with the rear door handles on the leading edge....also like a lincoln....looked bitchin.....let's see more pics as ya go...later, hatch

Have any links to this? I've always thought about suiciding the rear doors on my 57, but haven't seen it done. For whatever reason, most people are scared to chop on Tri-fives.

ya know the funny thing is ..this was a very easy chop...I just had to move the windshield posts a little with the porta power (very little) and I just have to fabricate 2 filler pieces where I stretched the roof above the rear window. If I was doing it again i think I would have cut the ass end of the car off and slid it all forward a little over an inch...more work but it would have been a neat detail.

Dad's 55 handyman wagon had a 2-1/4" chop. The small chops really look great on the wagons.

HAHA..yes as a matter of fact I did...and my son was there too. Why did scooter try to tell you he was in on it???
Just kidding...he showed up just as we were getting ready to cut,so he hung around and lent a helping hand! I had a backup plan with the monkey on a stick in case he was too weak! HAHA

I was always under the impression that the back glass(for the liftgate)
was tempered? and couldn't be cut. Am I wrong here?

you call it a "weenie chop" and it's only 2".

there's a joke there but I'm not going to tell it.

I plan on doing a 2' chop on my 49 coupe. just enough to keep people guessing.
