I machined the flywheel rather than the crank. I noticed the flywheel that came with the B&M looked like it had been turned on a lathe. Makes sense because it also came from a 389. This is my 59 motor with 55 bell housing.

This is the motor. Going to change the valve covers. Stroker with a 4.25 crank, solid lifters. Should have it fired this weekend. IMG_2489.jpg IMG_2488.jpg

  3. Fresh engine pix are the best! It's the anticipation, you know good stuff will happen soon.

  4. Dual Quads! You've been holding that card close to your vest!

NICE work so far. I noticed you sneaked a '65 and up dual quad on that little 389. Did you use '65 and up heads too or did you modify the intake?

What valve covers are you going to run?

I used ported 62 heads and port matched the intake. Not sure what valve covers. Need to clear the rockers so a little limited I think. I hate the idea of using spacers. Want to stay with factory style painted valve covers.

Looking forward to see that fired up.

What are the advantages to having a stroker motor?

That's a dual spreadbore intake is't it; you're not going to run Quadrajets are you? I've seen those intakes before, but never one with Quadrajets; they always had adapters for Holleys or AFB's. You're really developing quite a following here "Chief". Everyone loves your car, and what you're doing with it. Keep posting! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

I was thinking the same thing.
Looked like two Q jets or maybe some AVS ?

Great work Todd. Raiv valve cover gaskets are 1/4 thick and can double them up, don't remember felpro number off hand. I left mine sit overnight with rtv between the two and work great , if that would be enough height. I run a 3/4 " spacer also for stud girdle and roller rockers. Bill

So 453 now? May need to go back to 3.42 with the extra cubic inches. I only run 3.73 with a 28" slick. Or maybe find a 3:64 gear

Thanks Bill, and thanks for the cross member. What RPM are you turning through the lights with the 3.73? Thanks again.

6200, about 121 mph. 469, studded mains and eagle h beam rods. You've already got what a 4.06 first gear to help off the line, granted it won't last long till 2nd. But plenty of quick Pontiacs with high gear ratios, lower gears really don't make them faster especially with a 4.25 crank. If it was a 389/400 id say yes to the 4.33 for racing.

Motor is finally done. Made a few adjustments along the way. Ended up with 462 inch motor. I have attached a video from the Dyno session. Thanks to Calvin Hill for all his efforts.

Oh Baby, that's going to make that '57 fly!
Are you using 31 spline axles, or something else?

The one above looks like the one I had in High School in 1959-60. Mine was a Star Chief all silver and pretty fast for the time-beat most of the local cars. Have an old picture somewhere.
