This is an exact duplicate of my first car, color and trim. I want to say it was a Savoy but after 45 years I could be wrong. I didn't want a Plymouth back then but any car was better than a bicycle. I grew to like the styling and I think it's still a pretty car.
The side trim that everyone is referring to is called Sportone, and it was an option on the Belvedere, not standard, so it's absence is not proof that the car isn't a Belvedere.
Yea, What you said Big Dad, Hell this one is in a ton better condition than that Time Capsule model, and it's missin a door.
I still think it may be a Savoy, as even the "base" '58 Belvedere trim had a kickup at the rear. Like this one (an extremely rare Belvedere sedan) Savoy "base" trim was pretty much the same without the kickup. Doors are the same for every '57-59 Plymouth/Dodge/DeSoto/Chrysler 2dr HT. They are easy to find but pretty damned expensive. There is a '58 front clip at a yard here in Texas, but the fella knows what it's worth. I believe he wanted $250/ea for the fenders and the passenger-side one had pretty thin metal (sun baked). A '57 Plymouth fender would also work with some modification, the headlight bucket and eyebrow trim are different. Good luck! Keep us posted. Let us know if you need anything, the '50s Mopar community is small but tight.
Yep, looks like they missed some really important check boxes on that order form (hardtop, Sportone). I think that roof trim would be sedan-specific, hardtops have a different shape. I bet THAT is rare!
LP2N is a 1958 Plaza, Savoy or Belvedere built in Newark, NJ. with V-8 power. No letter suffix is Detroit - E is Evansville,IN. and L is Los Angeles. Canadian Plymouths were badged as Dodges so it's not Canadian.
The trim looks like the Plaza, I got doors, friend has fenders what do you need? My buddy also has a 57 black W/grey int. 440,727 411 olds rear, tubbed he is wanting 20k for it.
It's LP2W according to the bill of sale I got. Does that help?? I haven't had a chance to go pick it up yet..... but sure am looking forward to it. Here's a shot of the rebuild tag on the engine.
'58 Plymouth SAVOY 2 door HT. Savoys were standard with no roof trim and a single side trim. The roof trim was standard on the Belvys and Furys. Savoy Sport Trim option was a single side trim right above the rear wheel opening, from the tail light to the middle of the door, then a smaller width trim piece in a "S" shape back to just forward of the rear wheel opening under the single trim piece. Usually tu-toned paint. Somebody will post a pic of what am trying to describe. The Bumper Wing$ were an option clear across the board from Plaza to Belvedere. Standard only on the Furys.
The 57-57 Plymouth hardtops look like they have a chopped top compared to the post sedans. I say Savoy…had a 57 with the horizontal side trim.
