57 Ford under 53 Chevy

The 49-54 Chevy rear end is 60 inches wide and the 57 Ford is narrow at 57 inches. Does anyone know if the Ford is too narrow for the backing plates to clear the inside of the wheel wells?

It would be good to be able to run a decent size tire and still get the skirts on.

What about a Pontiac or Olds rear end?

 

That would be fine. I just have a 3:00 9 inch gear and access to a big bearing 57 rear from a station wagon.

The 9 inch with 3:00 ratio would be perfect behind a strong 350 and I have a fresh built Muncie that is just begging to go in this car.

I am intending this to be my long distance highway car. I have a 36 Ford roadster that I love but not the greatest thing for long distances on the interstate.
