57 chevy original gear ratio?

    Anyone know the original gear ratio for a 57 chevy Bel-air?

    depends on the trans, could be anything from 3.36 to 3.70

    most were 3.55 and 3.70

    in 57, powerglide cars had 3.36 gears

    auto trans = 3.36
    three speed = I think they switched from 3.70 to 3.55 when they went to the 14" tires in 1957.
    three speed with overdrive = 4.11

    So what trans did it have when new?

    WOW that was a fast reply! haha thanks!

    When i got the car it was a shell and a frame but it did have the clutch pedal assembly in it so it was the 3 on the tree i believe

    I may have a couple sets of gears for these rearends if anyone needs, I will have to look
