I am putting together a 1957 chevy two door and suggestions. I am using a 283 I need internals of he engine and interior. Any suggestions on brakes and interior
That's a pretty open ended question, I mean how much money do you want to spend? How much of the 283 do you have? Is it a 57 283 or a later model. I'm sure you will wind up with a thousand suggestions from blown hemi to wilwood disk brakes. If you want to sjust driove it and enjoy it, depending on how much of the 283 you have , I would say put that back together, rebuild the stock brakes and suspension, look for an interior guy or try it yourself. There are many ways to go. It just takes money. Pat
Yep... A manual front disc brake upgrade is a nice welcome on most cars with similar size and weight. I say that from experience. I have a 57 with a 355 4 speed and 4:10's and although it got rolling real nice the stab and pray 4 wheel drums kinda sucked. It now has manual front disc's and dual master. Stops real good now. if you dont want disc's i'd at least suggest a dual master cylinder... In fact, i'd highly suggest a dual master regardless of the rest of the brake system (providing it was all new) As far as interior, hard to beat the bare bones 150 interior, or if you want something more custom but still extremely traditional, simple black rolls and pleats work quite nice. Thats all i did. Tony
Your going to need a lot of money for that '57. Sell me that roadster so you can concentrate on the Chevy.
I wish you were closer, I have a good running 283 and powerslide in my 57 thats coming out, needs a good home.
I bought a manual disc brake kit from Mike Garcia on ebay. mgchevyparts.com Very reasonable price and with the 2" drop spindles went together very easily. It's a misconception that a dual master cylinder is safer than a single chamber. It's only safer if you add the combo/shuttle valve. Without it if you lose a hose or hardline you'll get a couple of pumps and then no brakes. I had it happen to me for the non believers. The whole system must be coordinated to insure safety. Re: interior, Ciadella's is the go to company for tri-5 Chevy's if you want a stock or custom interior.
Well now, if you step up to a 327, I have all kinds of NEW parts available (pistons in cast, hyperutectic cast, forged, cast crank in large journal, aftermarket rods, intake and exhaust manifolds, heads, headers). It's going to cost MORE to do a 283 than say a 350. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Disc up front dual manual master. Stock 210 style interior. Now I'll let you pick the engine. Leave it stock height with new front and 5 leaf rear springs.
I have a 283 1957 block but needs work I am looking for a 1957 block with no issues, let me know about the engine joe cool
Update the front brakes, and go the 4.11 route - you won't be sorry. Maybe a 350ho 327 grid on the cam, 2x4's intake, and a pair of CalCustom valve covers for that 60's look. Then you can sell the drum brake setup and 3's ratio pumpkin to me
YEEEHAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! that is what I say everytime I drive my 57. 327 L79 motor, muncie m20, 3.70 posi. stock suspension with power disc brakes on front, dual master and proportioning valve. Bias ply skinnys on front and hurst cheaters on back. WOOOOOO!!!! I'M GOIN OUT RIGHT NOW. Been a long winter. Any questions, feel free to ask, I did every nut, bolt, wire, clamp, panel, etc on that car
I am gonna use a Richmond five speed, need a disc brake set up and I have a 10 bolt rear, the 283 will have about 420 horse and planning on a hill born injection we will see the rear end gears can be in the 3's with a Richmond. I do not have an l79 I wish I did.
Mine is a 82k mile 283 two barrell, powerglide. It runs good ,I put new rear main ,pan gasket ,front cover and seal ,valve cover gaskets and aluminum covers. I'll sell it with manifolds, radiator, air cleaner just like it comes out.
