    Where is the engine number on a 57 Bird Y Block?

    First letter of the VIN.

    Oh...you want a stamped number on the block? Ford didn't do that
     
  3. From all that I could research, Ford didn't start stamping VIN numbers on engines until about half way through 1967.

    Casting #'s could be on the block at the distributor hole for early ones or above the oil filter for later ones. Once you have the info you can go to Mummerts
    ford-y-block.com and see what you have. He also lists cylinder head numbers there. The site is a great place for yblock information.
