I have a 56 IH pickup needs a new motor, what fits to the stock bellhousing?

    IH 345, 392,
    Ford?
    Chevy?

  2. I'm not ENTIRELY positive, but I think the only thing that will bolt up is another IH straight six.....Maybe the 345, but from what I remember reading off OldIHC.org, I don't think so. If there was something relatively easy, I would have tried it by now. My BD264 burns a LOT of oil.....debating between rebuilding the six, or swapping out the drivetrain for a couple more cylinders.

Thanks, I am thinking may be finding on donor truck.
This truck has been sitting for 25 years!
complete except for some one took the head off the motor and a hub cap!

  4. If you're going to be driving it any distance, and don't want to be turning RPMs like a Winston Cup stock car to go 60 MPH, I'd be more inclined to swapping out the whole driveline. Those old Haybalers had some real stump puller rear end ratios. They were built for hauling, not cruising.

Thanks I am on a tight string on this one; I have found a small bolt pattern rebuilt six.
