I have axles out of a 56 GMC pickup. was wondering how good the rear is? it has a cover on back and 3member comes out also.

also where is a good place to get breaks for this?

Sounds like the Chevy rearend used in 3/4 tons up thru the late 60s. not much available for gears....and its' been working hard all its life and probably pretty well worn out.

You mean stock brake parts or adapting newer brakes?

Should be an Eaton 10.5" ring gear. I think LMC Truck of Kansas sells wheel cylinders and brakes for this rear. Try your local parts house for grease seals and wheel cylinder kits they might have something.

Three different sets of gears available, 4.10 that is somewhat rare, 4.57 that is likely what you have, and 5.14 which was an option in 3/4-tons and standard in 1-tons.

LMC and Jim Carter seem to have the brake parts currently. Or at least they did until my buddy bought stuff a few weeks ago.
