So I am getting ready to reassemble my rod and need some info, can anyone tell me or show me a pic as to how i know which side is which on my front brake backing plates?? Its stamped in the RF and LF but thats a Ford stamping and Ford is famous for different ways of looking at things... is that as you are sitting in the vehicle or is it from the point of looking at the vehicle??? Basically i can see that the backing plates are virtually identical, tho the clock position of the holes that bolt it to the spindle are tilted slightly making them specifically a right and left... but whose right are we talking about?? Any help??
I believe the 48-52 style backing plates have a "R" and a "L" stamped into them... check yours closely.
I believe what he's asking is, is the one stamped R or RF the Driver's side or the Passenger side? Just trying to sync up with Ford's logic on this. I would figure it to be based on a driver's seat veiwpoint, but it may be from the veiwpoint of a mechanic looking in an open hood. Later, Kinky6
Well if it was together that would answer my question, and i wouldnt have been asking then as i would know the answer, but since the wheel cylinder can bolt in to it either way and its all apart, that wont answer my current question...
i just need someone who has them on their car to have a look, and tell me which way theirs is on there. Or if someone has knowledge on which side is which its greatly appreciated.
I put the one marked L on the right (pass)side. There was a reason to do this. If you study them, you will see the mounting holes are clocked different side to side. I put them on the way I did so the wheel cylinder will be the most level. If the cylinder is inclined, It is impossible to bled the brakes untill you get the car angled on a rise so the cylinder is level. I don't know why it is marked that way but I put them on so they would work the best.
