    454 is a Gen 5 block:
4 bolt mains. No provision for mech. fuel pump. One piece rear main seal.
This one have retrofit Hydraulic Rollers and a timing cover with a cam plate.
    Regular Stock Passenger Heads...
Single Plain w. Edelbrock 750...for now...some kind of EFI later.

    Cam:
    (It's a Truck!)
Looking for a Bottom End to Mid range Gobs of Torque Stick.
    Gen 4 - Hydraulic Roller.
...With a nice sound...not as important!...
    Any Ideas / Experience?

I am curious to see how these headers fit up and clear the wheel/tire combo and cab.

When I rebuilt the '70 429 Ford in my avatar, its first trip was cross country pulling a trailer so I looked up cam specs for that task, settled on a .509 lift, 294 degree duration with 112 degree lobe separation hydraulic cam. Torque peak was around 3500 rpm, running 3.73s in the 9 inch got around 10-12 mpg, not too bad. It kicked like a mule at low-medium rpm but fell flat on its ass above 5500 rpm. Engine had a little lope to it and sounded good with headers and low restriction mufflers.

    Why that "much" exhaust?
    It's short, cheap...ish...
    & I probably want that 318 (402) Poly w. A blower in there One Day...new flanges & some heat...

    383 stroker?...we gave it a cheap try...
It runs .. but it's not Happy.
Big Block Chevy...in a Chevy?... bolts right in!...I may just like it? hfbbc225-detail-1.jpeg head-exhaust.jpeg

  11. How are you going to transition from round to oval on that exhaust ?
I kinda like that oval tube but I have round mufflers and same basic headers on my 41 p/u 20191207_142611.jpg FB_IMG_1547923389277.jpg

    Loudbang...
    Get back on it...?
That's exactly what i told my buddy on Friday...
Gotta get this truck rolling so I can get the Tub back in the Garage...
Can't just haul the tub around forever...

    Towing:
Hitch is on...Little short..I'll extend it or move the bumper in..?

Next is bottom of the Doors & Steps Rust...later..one side at the time...
    Swade: Round to Oval?
The Oval pipes will come out under the steps - cut at an angel ~45...
The Oval to round pipe connectors was more expensive that those pipes...
So - Cut - Hammer - Weld the ends to fit...Cheaper!

  14. I was wondering if you could just smash round to fit the oval, your trailer hitch has me wondering if the one I bought for my 57 is going to be long enough hhmmm

    Hi Swade
Pound one Round or the other Oval...we'll see?

Cool Truck by the way!..Betcha it hauls with that Huffer on top that BBC?
Looks like you're at the Track?
    (Nice Bumpers!)

  16. I was at the track but it was Sunday Niagara nostalgia deal, I was pretty much just shaking it down driving it around the oval, it just blows the tires off when you get on it, kinda like driving on ice.
I'm currently upgrading to a stripped 8-71, bigger fuel system from fuel cell to carbs and upgrading the rear to 35 spline, then sticky tires, it should be close to a thousand horse when done, it made just shy of 800 on 3 lbs boost with the old 6-71 on 93 octane.
My 57 p/u will have creature comforts that none of my other stuff has, plan on using it to tow the Henry J to the track and would like to do some road trips, reading your thread gets me excited about working it. 20191204_163832.jpg

  20. It used to be a one bedroom apartment built in there, kept the tenant for about 3 yrs then got rid of them so I could really use the garage to work in, instead of having to be so considerate with my noise.
Now it's the smaller heated work area for winter comfort, not much need for air conditioning in Buffalo NY...ha ha
