It's been a while since I posted anything, and that's because I was dinking around with bikes for the last couple years. But now I'm back on track and happy to report that the Chevy now sports a 55 DeSoto grille. But it's more than that, the entire front end is re-worked. You have never seen one like this, I guarantee. It's a bona-fide full custom now and I'm taking it to the Hunnert this weekend and I just want to crow about it. Hope to see some of you that I haven't seen in a while. Oh, crap. I didn't bring the pictures to work. OK, pics to follow later. Oops. Bye.
Marc, I love you like a brother. I'll be brutally honest with you... You need to pancake the hood, and find a matching bumper now...I'll leave it at that on here. Call me-
Man! Those DeS grilles have sure dressed up a ton of customs! Most of the 119,000 '55 DeSotos may have been junked & recycled, but I honestly think 100,000 GRILLES LIVE ON -- somewhere! LOL
Looks Good Stretch. Have Fun at Pileup, glad to see you met your goal of driving it to the show. Pack a Jacket and some Jack to stay warm. You and Roger have a safe trip.
This is some good unique well done customizing! Yeah, there are a million ways you can go with it or leave it alone but Im sure glad I saw it!
You want him to replace my '51 Merc rings? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=269491 . .
Nice.... but I would not pie-cut section the hood. Well you could if you are after a Hot Rod look. But if you want custom. Leave it. Or perhaps extend the nose a bit. But don't make it lower.. that will ruin the lines of your car.
I think you're right on, Rikster. I do think that the hood has to change a little to make the whole thing work, but I like big bulging hoods - keep it custom. And, I think my choice of a 54 bumper could have been better. I think in the future I will integrate either a 54 chevy hood or possibly a Merc hood (for the peak), and add a bumper with more of a peak to it as well. MercMan1951 and I are going to play around with some things he has laying around his garage. BTW Rikster, thanks for collecting and maintaining all those photos. I have spent a lot of time pouring through them. Great stuff. My gratitude.
