55-56 olds headlight ring question

well i want to do 55 oldsmobile headlights on my 51 chevy, problem is i don't have the rings yet, but i do have 56 olds rings. Now can i make a fender extension to fit the 56 olds ring and use 55 olds rings or are they completely different. NOT including the peak of coarse.

55 and 56 are the same. the difference is in the series, 98 had one style, 88 had another. i can't remember which is which, ie. peaked or non peaked.
