Before I spend another wad on these new/old shoes, I thought I would do a trial fit "as bought" on these old americans on the 55. A little adjustment on tire size for the rear and a tad out of the front suspension and either set would work fine. I could put tires on them and run them on the 34 for long hauls. Let me know what you guys think. I have one vote either way at home.
Thanks. I like the look myself. My son, who will inherit the car, votes the chrome 5 spokes. Of course I will keep them when I am feeling like swapping up the look some, but these make the old car look like it is sitting on a high school parking lot in the sixties, at least to me anyway.
I'd use both sets. Pull off the front bumper and splash pan when you run the old 5 spokes. Re-install the bumper when running the polished Americans. That would change the look so much, that folks would think you had 2 different cars
Nothing would look as good as picture # 2, the polished 5 spokes just look like all the rest of the 55 Chevy's that show up on Cruse Nights. HRP
Every time I would see some honiock polish those American spokes (in the '60s) I had a special reprimand for them. "Why didn't you buy RADERS? Then you could paint the drums red, and be in the circus parade."
Mike, you got that right, as far as I'm concerned the old style 5 spokes is the best looking mag wheel ever designed. HRP
I guess the only shiney wheels I like on old cars are chrome steelies 90% of tri 5s at the shows have shiney 5 spokes in some form or fashion the top looks like it keeps lawn chairs in the trunk waiting for the weekly cruise in the bottom looks like its looking to do a burnout or on the prowl for a red light challenge

They are going on there with a new set of tires. I have so many oil leaks on the old girl so while I am shelling out cash, I will just slap another motor in it. I don't want to drop too much that it makes hauling the Scotty a PIA. The wheels will get a new set of center caps to replace the rusted ones and the front end could be 2 inches lower for looks. I will revive this thread after I get some work done on it. Thanks to all who shared an opinion.
You know, Tri fives look good outfitted with these type of wheels, but any more, it is fairly rare to see a set on one. Good looking car you have there. These wheels have been on an ot Chevy since the late 70s and they have spent more time in a garage than most. Time they get some use if you ask me.
Well I wrapped the old rims in 800 bucks worth of new tires and new center caps. I really like the fact that now they fill up the rear wheel openings to just about perfect. Made a test run and she is ready for the road.
The first "mags" I ever saw were the Torqs with the dark gray centers and the polished hoops on a '61 red Galaxy. I was imprinted like a baby duck. From that point on all other contenders have been *Not My Mamma*. The shiny ones might be Yo' Momma but they will never be My Momma.
