I am running a 65 Buick 300-2 V8, hooked to a 65 super turbine 300 trans. Kind of an odd setup, but thats what I like about it.

Nothing is easier than sticking a SBF in there. I've found that that problem with mid 50's Fords isn't the length of the engine, it's the width. That's not so say wide motors don't fit, but you wind up having to fight through a myriad of other issues like exhaust plumbing and cooling issues. My buddy had a 472 Cadillac in his and it was a battle to keep that car running cool.

My '53 has a '61 348/4 speed and a '70 Mach 1 9" rear. There's a Tex Smith book called How to build Shoebox Fords and it covers 49-54, some good motor swap info in there.

I know it's not traditional, but here's mine with a 2003 5.4 litre from a Lightning pick up. Supercharged and EFI backed by a 6 speed AOD.

The one I did and drove for years had a 312 t-bird with a 3speed auto. Clean and easy. Four barrel and 3x2 at different times.
