'53 vs. '54 Bel Air sway bar

This may not mean anything or make any difference, but I just discovered the '53 sway bar is about 10mm larger in diameter than the '54. I know they made changes to the front suspension in '54, but does someone know why there is such a big difference? Or, does it make any difference?

I'm combining 2 junkers to make 1...and both were all original. Another subtle difference was the shape/sizes of the 90 degree angle brackets which hold the body onto the frame...cool stuff to compare.
