I'm not usually a custom guy but your car's proportions are so nice! A '59 dash has always been my favorite and you installed it like it was built that way. You probably should drive it unpainted for a couple summers and show off your talent. Fantastic work my man.

Started the next project today, adapting the power glide shifter to work with my 700r4 transmission. Goal was to make this all work without any of the mechanisms exposed in the engine bay to keep everything clean. Here is what I have come up with so far.

Using a modified lime works speed shop shifter detent, I machined a piece to weld into the back of the old shifter arm to slide onto the new stainless column shaft. Everything will be up under the dash, including the modified lokar column cable kit. Will post a more in depth write up once complete and tested next week.

Great build. If you have any details on how you built the detent and shifter please post. Been playing with a detent plate and cable for my 47 Plymouth with auto- can't seem to get it to work consistently.

I did not build the detent. As I said in my last post I used a Limeworks Speed shop detent that I modified to work with my column application. I also used a lokar column cable shift kit that I am modifying to work on my car as well. As soon as I'm finished I will show ya what all I did.

This is hands down one of the best coupe builds ever. I must say you are doing one top notch build and the documentation is second to none I am a 30 year bodyman/painter and have clipped over 100 cars and your skills are to be complimented. Keep it up ........

Got some work done on the car over the last two weeks. Been really busy at work and doing other things. Feels good to put my head down and get some progress on the 53. Started fitting the rear package tray that I am using as most of you have seen I will be running a 64 t-bird rear seat. It by no means fit the car, it was too short, square and had those horrible louvers. I wanted the rear package tray to flow the same as my dash does in the car. Using my front fender to shape most of the new panel then fine tuning with my planishing hammer, I built the new skin.

Cut the new skin to match up with the lower half of the thunderbird panel. File fit and then tig welded completely.

After filing down the weld. I spent time between my planishing hammer, hammer/dolly and my shrink disc until I was happy.

New package tray is fitted. Next I have to make the wrap around corner pieces fit and flow into the garnish mouldings.

Car is on hold as I am currently building my english wheel. This will allow me to do some stuff I have needed to do on the car but was unable without the english wheel. Here is the progress so far, I am waiting on my new upper adjuster and anvil that I have ordered from Hoosier Profiles to arrive.

Man English wheel looks great! Defiantly a must have for metal shaping.

Finished up my english wheel. Stoked on how it turned out and cant wait to use it on some sheet metal. Need to finish some side work before I can get a chance to do that. I am taking a break from the 53 once again as I will be taking on another job fix/finishing a merc chop for a friend.

Thanks Patrick. The anvil rack that holds my lower anvils is what you are looking at.

Got some work done on the rear t-bird seat assembly. Had to blend the center section around and flow into the garnish moldings.

The new garnish molding will be attached to the center section where the cleco's are with factory molding screws.

    Thanks Dave!

Thanks man. Brads car is looking pretty badass as well! Great way to save a more door

Thanks, haven't had a lot of time to work on the car at the moment. Doing some side work to get more funds for the build. Wasn't sure how the garnish was going to work but I'm super happy with how it turned out.
