51' Merc OD tranny

    Could anyone tell from the pics what OD (and not OD parts I guees) are missing form this transmission ?

    To me it looks like you are missing the Overdrive engagement solenoid, and the overdrive planetary gear assembly.

    Here is a scan out of the 1957 Motor's Auto Repair Manual. Hope it helps.

    As i remember Ford used 3 OD trannies in the 50's the rect side cover you have , one with a tin top cover and the heavy duty BW T 85 with the rounded bottom side cover. there were 3 and 4 planet gear types

    Hope this helps. Shows 51 merc OD unit. This manual was printed 11-1-1950. Don't know if any design changes were made after printing.
