Its Saturday night and I got the front susp removed and started stripping the rails

    unbolted and dropping it out

susp removed and I started cleaning up the rails so I can weld in the new Crossmember.

not much time recently to work on the car due to business travel but I did get a chance to notch the frame for the rack.

It been a few weeks since my last post as the kit was missing a few minor pieces. Here is the rest of the install

temp spacer in place to mock up the ride height until the motor and trans are back in. (will install the springs then)

Looks like the rim will tuck to the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender will be at the bottom edge of the rim (or very close) once it is re-installed

THought it was time for an update. The car has sat for a few weeks while I spent time on a kitchen and bath room remodel to keep the wife happy (still not done but I needed a break). I had planned on getting the firewall body worked and painted this winter but lack of time is going to prevent that, so I will "gibbs" the baremetal until next winter when the car comes back apart for the roof cutting and other updates (each winter the car comes apart for upgrades)

SPent part of the weekend starting to put the car back together.

bought a master cylinder kit from Walton, it is a nice kit and easy to install.

with the bracket and pedal installed, it was time to reinstall the motor
    [IMG]

Next was installing the stainless steering rod and U joints.

with the motor and steering installed I mounted the booster and master cylinder.

next is running breaklines and reinstall/ routing the electrical now that all the firewall holes are filled.

Got the 51 back on the road for summer. It was a heavy thrash last week but thanks to a few club members spending some of their evening helping me out. I was able to drive it out of the garage last Thursday down to the Muffler shop (replaced the headers so the exhaust had to be modified) and then to the alignment shop.

Made our club poker run Sat and spent today patching the roof to get thru summer before we cut it off.

Here are a few shots of how it now sits with the Mustang II and drop spindles

    Before (factory susp, dropped coils)

    today

as you can see the roof has been repaired and put into primer. still debating if I will paint it or just leave it in primer (saving some money) since it only has to last until Sept.

I expect the front to settle another 1/2" as the coils break in.. Front edge of fender (just behind the tire is 4.25" off the ground. Nice height for no bags.

Hey man, very nice ride. I'm doing a similar ride ... http://1952chevystylelinedeluxe.shutterfly.com/

I've already installed the Fatman Ultralow, and the Walton trans x member. But, how far did you raise your engine mounts off the bottom of the frame?

    Thanks,
    Jimmy

I had to raise the Walton motor mounts up 1" from where they bolt in. I had a Fatman ultralow in my 53 wagon and i had to notch the crossmember ( motor sat lower). I basicaly cut a 1/2" to 1" out of the back edge and angled the top of the crossmember back to close the gap (and made new triangle shaped side fillers.

in my 51, the motor clears the crossmember by a 1/2" to 1". you can see in one of the pictrues above, the mounting holes for the motor mounts are just below the top of the tophats. (hope that makes sense), maybe an inch or so below

here is an update on the car. It is all apart again this year for more changes

Rust repair is the focus, as both rear quarters had it.

During disassembly it was decided to removal all the stainless to get straightened and polished. I guess the jokers who owned it previously decided holding stainless on with clips was overrated and used silicone

    off to the polisher

As we dug into the rust, we found fiberglass patches were installed over the old rust (you can see the panel as it was Popped off)
    Rust repair continues

getting fixed the right way this time.

Well with the car this far apart, it is now going to get a fresh coat of color and a change of look

Disassembled the front suspension and sent all of it and the trunk and rear apron to the sand blasters for stripping. Here it is back from blasters getting a protection coating of primer

No top change this year? I still want to see it; I know I'll be in Covington in late June.

I had to google Polane to find out what that meant. How expensive is it? And since it's an interior aircraft coating is it UV resistant?
